Summary: Toph knows full well that introducing a suitor and letting her parents in on the decision is Bei Fong tradition, but the visit entailed no requests for permission from her or Sokka.

On her arm is a new bracelet, one made of jade. It’s twisted into the shape of a boar, its flying wings spread around in a circle. The color matches her eyes.
“I thought he’d give you a necklace,” Aang says.
Toph shrugs.
“It is tradition, you know,” Katara adds. “For the Water Tribe. At least in the North. Still, I figured Sokka would pick up on it.”
“Sokka and I don’t’ stand on tradition,” Toph replies, grinning and putting her feet up on the table. They’re staying in Ba Sing Se for a few days to meet with the Earth King, and she’s been particularly unpolished all week, picking her nose, skipping showers and Earthbending loudly in the open space behind the house they’ve been given for the visit. Being engaged has done nothing to transform her into a proper lady. But it’s not as if Sokka is any better. If Toph burps, he burps louder. If she makes a rude comment about some noble during one of their Peace meetings at the palace, he laughs the loudest.
Still, Katara thinks it’s odd, the shape the bracelet is in.
Toph knows full well that introducing a suitor and letting her parents in on the decision is Bei Fong tradition, but the visit entailed no requests for permission from her or Sokka. The Bei Fongs, needless to say, had been mortified.
“The Flying Boar?” Katara asked later on when Sokka appeared for dinner, propping his elbows on the table and greeting his fiancée by tugging affectionately at her big toe.
Toph shrugged.
“It’s... tradition,” she said.
They all laughed.
