Good, short-to-the-point response, kungfucarrie. Some would argue that it's a matter for the soon-to-be unemployed of ABX Air to have jobs to put food on the table. But, I ask, what kind of jobs are they?

Out of curiosity, I researched employment opportunities for three casinos in Indiana. Only one, Argosy, posts wages in their employment section (some jobs, not all).

Right now, ABX air package sorters can start at $12/hour (source: abxair.com). Many of the service-industry jobs I saw on Argosy's website average $8.85 an hour or less. If a casino workforce was unionized in any way, it would likely take more out paychecks, on top of taxes and insurance premiums. Any displaced ABX Air employee, therefore, would be taking a cut in pay if all they could land was one of these service jobs

(makes even a Kinkoid job look good, huh? :P )

And who says that the casino will guarantee jobs to the displaced ABXers? Who says they will get first dibs at the jobs? I suspect that many will have to compete with people who would move to Ohio to work for the casino. This would include any "internal applicants" from the operator's other casinos he owns when it comes to cushy jobs (such as management positions). Anyone applying for work would have to go through the same competition for jobs you and I are all too familiar with. The shadowy out-of-state operator isn't lobbying for a casino because he feels sorry for the about-to-be-laid-off ABXers; he's doing it for the money! (and at the same time, IMHO, playing at the heartstrings of the townspeople)

Then some people may actually have religious/moral/ethical convictions. In spite of mouths to feed, they wouldn't take a casino job, even if it was handed to them on a golden platter.
