Music, Music, Music tour, Sheffield City Hall, Monday 11th May 2009

Finally it was here! I had been looking forward to this for soooo long.

Going to work in the morning was such a mistake, really shouldn't have bothered, didn't get much done. One day maybe I will grow up!

Our seats couldn't be better, we were on the end of the front row, this however does mean that for most of the night I couldn't see John's legs, the speakers were in the way, but you can't have everything.

The lights go out, the announcement goes wrong, but we know who is coming out anyway, to the music of "Don't stop me now" John appears in the lighter of the TTN silver/grey suits and a black shirt. This is swiftly followed by "Just help yourself" with lots of wiggling and dancing (Please don't do that little jump, it makes me cringe!) My memory fails me as to the order of the songs and even what songs there were, but I am sure that by the end of the tour I will know it backwards! The songs are interspersed with chat and stories and pictures projected on the screen at the back. We hear tales of dragging up, the dogs, Scott in chaps (!)  and John's pride in his Scottish heritage.

This brings us into the Andrew Lloyd Webber Scottish medley!  I see it as a bit of fun, a "Barrowman Twist" on some old musical favourites. I enjoyed it, I wonder how it went down in Glasgow?

There is nothing to compare with last years "Man of La Mancha" or "Feeling Good", which is a shame, those moments made the tour for me last year and I was hopeful for something as equally spine tingling this year. However I think that "Made it through the rain" and "Both sides now" are sung beautifully and with "I won't send roses" and "From a distance" give a fairly good balance with the lighter, fluffier, poppier stuff. "Livin La Vida Loca" is an excuse for much bum wiggling, which I personally will never tire of!

There is a tribute to their dogs which have passed on (Goodbye my friend) and a song dedicated to the fans (When you tell me that you love me) complete with chat about how some letters make him feel like a hero. (Bless)

The night ended with "From a distance) and what seems to be John's anthem, "I am what I am" complete with Sparkly collared black jacket.
With bows and salutes he left the stage.

The dancers and the projection screen are an addition to last year whereas the band are largely the same. John already seems to have a good working atmosphere with everyone (the dancers being 4 of the ones on TTN) and they all seem to be having a great time. Especially John, to see him having such a laugh and enjoying himself immensely was wonderful, he reminded me of a little boy at Christmas, full of excitement and mischief.

My overall feeling of the night is that it is a feel good show, light and bouncy and overall fun, for the audience and for John himself.
Is it time for my next one yet?!?
