dvds are cool

I got the new Texas Chain Saw Massacre DVD yesterday. The sad thing is, this is a title I could have requested for free from the distributor a month ago if I wasn't so lazy. The case is metal, like the Dune DVD that was out earlier this year. I think this is a bad form of packaging in some parts of Canada, as the cases get too cold in the wintertime. For instance, if I wanted to lick the case in January (not that I would; I just need to know I have freedoms I will never exercise) my tongue might get stuck to it. Also, since films like this attract psychopaths, somebody could sharpen the case and kill their neighbour with it.

I'm gonna go watch it now.

Last night I watched Imprint. That's the Takashi Miike Masters of Horror ep that Showtime wouldn't air. Anchor Bay also gave me a bunch of DVDs of movies I've never heard of. One is called Baby's Blood. Imprint is a bit hard to look at--I'm no longer 18, so I don't have much patience for drawn out torture scenes, especially when they involve industrial strength needles being placed behind peoples' fingernails and through their gums. And it left me feeling sort of horrible. But it's an interesting flick about, of many unsuspected things, the value of kindness. I think Miike is an idealist who is genuinely appalled by most of what he puts on screen. At least, that's the impression I get from Imprint.
