The past week had been of of extreme indulgence! I was only expecting a nice birthday treat but there was just too many activities happening!
The office gang decided to spring a surprise birthday celebrations for me & another colleague on monday... pretty cheeky i would say, cos they made it seem like i was part of the "planning committee" for the other colleague and then turned it into a double celebration! It was a lunch time celebration at Ding Tai Feng (unfortunately not my ideal place of choice), but it was complete with rounds of xiao long baos and even shou tao (haha, all thanks to some DBS card promo)! and of course there was the 2 bday cakes and 2 sets of birthday gifts & cards. =)
Tuesday was pretty relaxing too i met up with an ex-colleage for tea at Marmalade Pantry, Ion. It was a rare day off and we spent the time sipping tea, smoothies and yummy sandwiches and cakes! the business there was brisk as we were there from 1-ish till almost 5pm and all the tables were packed! ended the day by boutique-shopping for a bag that she was intending to buy from Europe next year...
luckily i already had my bag fix for this year, or my hands would be itchy too! =P
Thursday was my day! Had work to clear, so couldn't take the day off, but none the less, the boy made sure that I was pampered silly that day =)
he would make sure that he sends me a bouquet of flowers for every single birthday since the pak tor days..
It used to a single stalk more for each passing year, 21st = 21 stalks, 22nd = 22 stalks etc… and so, I was happily expecting to receive a bouquet of 20+ this year, but he has outdone himself… with a bouquet of 99 mini roses..
These are slightly smaller than usual roses, so the whole overall effect is not as bombastic... still it huge =P
He had orginally planned for dinner to be at Equinox.. but with the crazy haze that evening, we decided that we shouldn’t waste our time and money to go all the way up there for a smokey view… so it was off to Gyu Kaku instead!
http://www.gyu-kaku.com.sg/
This is our favourite restaurant for Japanese BBQ, where the grill uses charcoal, but has this suction right at the rim of the grill so that its smokeless! and of course, the meats served are all of very good cuts and marbelling! so each piece is "fat and juicy" =P
Just a tip for those who are keen to go, make sure you make a reservation for booth seats (at Chijmes) for privacy and get the set meal.. you'll get to try the different cuts of meats and then you can re-order your favourite cuts. Oh! its also advisable to cook as you eat, don't just dump all the meat to fully utililize the grill cos you should enjoy each piece when its hot. The staff will also come by to change the grill for you so that you can bbq on a clean slate each time.
(although the service standard kinda dropped since the past few visits, but we shall not dwell on it since it was a happy occasion)
The week ended with a visit to Marina Bay Sands! My uncle had booked a room there and we were invited to go over!
The view there really beats Ritz Carlton hands down! we were also very lucky that the haze cleared up the same morning, else we wouldn't be able to enjoy this view! (taken at level 31)
and the trip won't be complete without a trip to the famous Infinity pool (level 57)!
But i feel that the pool is too crowded to my liking.. even the "viewing gallery" part that was open to the public... I know the view is able to draw the crowd, but with masses of people (and we even suspect that tour agencies bring tourist to the top as part of a "Singapore Attraction"), it's lost some of the exclusivity...
we'll probably be back when the hype of the new Marina Bay Sands has settled down, but probably on a weekday to enjoy ourselves =)
so that wraps up the week of indulgence! next week should be pretty exciting too! with Mei coming back from overseas (again) and the long weekend! =)
till then, its back to the boring work week...
