Headed down to the HDB hub yesterday to attend the "My Blissful Wedding Seminar" organized by HDB, CPF & Touch Community...
What we had expected to be a talk on things you should take note for buying your first HDB flat turned out otherwise...
The CPF talk was insighful, but the bottom line that the speaker was trying to bring across was "don't spend too much or you'll have NOTHING left for your retirement years...". we would have appreciated the talk better if it was on how to fully maximize our CPF...
I know that we must start planning for our retirement, but that part can come in a bit later after we bought out house right... *sign*
the HDB's turn was not any much better... they basically told us about the different types of housing that were available for us to choose from and how to make use of their online facilities from their website... again, its not as useful as i thought it would be...
the last part was from Touch where a couple came up to share their experiences and how we should attend a marriage prep course... the guy was funny la, though i wished he spoke a little slower for us to digest what he was trying to say...
after which came the part that got people worked up... the Q & A session...
the first 2 couples that spoked talked about the income ceiling of $8K... and it just made me think of how selfish some singaporeans can be...
the first couple spoke of how they exceed the $8k ceiling and that HDB was taking ages with her appeal... and poor HDB was getting grilled left, right & centre. In the first place, HDB provides SUBSIDIZED housing and its only natural that they implement an income ceiling. SInce you fall above the ceiling, you can still buy a HDB flat, but just that you won't be entitled a flat direct from HBD (read: buy from the open / resale market). You are obviously doing well enough, so don't fight with the rest of us for the few available flats!
the same case for the second couple... i know that in this new era, its easy to hit that $8k ceiling, but this is a GOOD problem! you can't have the best of both worlds... you can jolly well afford a more expensive flat, so why fight with the other people?
The way the 2 couples were "arguing" with HDB made me see how selfish and self-centred some people can get... for your information, not everyone holds a degree and not everyone is as lucky as you to get a $4k income... so shut up already...
I may sound jealous, but i know that in time to come, i will face this income ceiling problem as well, but thats not how i would react to the situation... some people are finding it hard to even afford a 3 room flat and here you are, upset that you are too rich to buy a flat direct from HDB.. tsk tsk
