(
Part One;
Part Two; and
jarrow 's
original list)
The champion vid in this category is definitely
fan_eunice and
greensilver 's "
Papa Don't Preach". My eyebrows lifted so far off my head while I was watching it the first time I thought they would fall right off, and then the crazy laughter started. It also led to one of my personal favourite moments while doing my PhD: trying to explain the concept of it to my 3 (old, white, male) supervisors and watching their reactions. The scariest part is how well the TW footage works for this... !!
I'm a bit ashamed to admit that it was "
Origin Stories" by
giandujakiss . The main problem for me was that I hadn't seen the source, to be honest. Other than the main characters (Spike, Buffy, etc.) I had no idea who anyone else in this vid was, as I had stopped watching Buffy way back and hadn't seen any episodes in years. (I know, it's on the list!) Multiple watches, help from a fanatic Buffy fan-friend, and reading tons of the commentary was needed before I could put it all together. It's a shame really, because it's such a powerful and foundational vid!
"Don't Lose Yourself" by
sweetestdrain . Donna! This really was the greatest tragedy, how Donna was just up and chucked out of the show, and left with nothing at all, really. I have lots of bad words for RTD on this one, but suffice to say I see this vid as a fandom outcry of support and love for her character.
Over and over again... this one's also a contender for the "rewatch" category, but I'm going to say "
Paul McCartney" by
jarrow .This vid is so well synchronised and bright and happy...it's my vid pick-me-up, any day, any time. Another contender here is "
Thriller" by
buffyann . Just wait until 1.20. You'll see. I dare you to resist this one.
