The Pokemon franchise has been around for roughly fourteen years. It has produced over FIVE HUNDRED creatures, five lands, so many ideas and...It's just amazing that it has lasted so long and is still so strong with old and new fans alike.
As the fifth generation appears, there are a lot of people complaining about the new Pokemon, obviously. And I always dislike the people who act like this. But, a new pokemon came out a few days ago, presumably the evolution of Pachirisu, named Emonga エモンガ.
I personally think it's pretty cute and a good addition to the electric rodent line.
In black and white, they are restarting the Pokedex basically, and the route numbers; which means, they are trying to make it like first gen; or give the feeling of first gen.
But there are still those complainers. One of my favourite artists posted a picture they drew of this Pokemon, and I was reading the comments, and decided to comment on one. And I'd like you all to read it;
Her: Here is the question I have about this new pokemon: Why is there a flying-electric type when flying types are weak against electric? That's kinda like having a grass type that breathes fire.... >n>
Me: Zapdos is an old pokemon and was flying/electric~. It's all about balance and competitive edge, I guess. Combining opposites makes for interesting creatures, considering you have to think of a way that would even work and why. :< but yeah they always have done stuff like this xD
Her: Zapados is also a legendary...
*Shrugs* I just think the new Pokemon that are coming out are stupid. People online have made better designs for Pokemon (do a search of "fakemon" and you find a ton of really neat ones). I don't understand why the Pokemon franchise can't come up with better concepts... seriously. They do have good ones, but it seems like they are running out of ideas. And yes I also realize that coming up with 500+ designs is challenging but.... [link] we all could have lived without this. I also don't understand why there has to be a Pikachu knock-off in every new gen that comes out.
Nothing against the pic that purplekecleon did, it is a cute image and I love her stuff, she does amazing Pokemon artwork. I'm just venting at the squirrel.
Me:I don't see how any of them are really necessarily stupid if you or at least, overall-stupid like you and the rest of the pokemon fanbase seem to try to make it out as. Stylistically, and when it comes to the background of all the new characters, i really only think Pokemon are getting deeper or at least more abstract (for the most part). Such as all the newer pokemon based on Japanese legend and things; mawile, torterra, hihidaruma. But I guess, it's easy to just call them stupid and not simply find something you like and complain about it just because you like the simple first gen or something. In any case, I'm sure they do things like pikaknockoffs because they hold to a certain standard of what they want in each generation. Easiest way to maintain and keep their younger fanbase happy. Pokemon is, after all, mostly aimed torwards children; even though most of their fanbase in the States are getting older.
Her: Last I knew I was entitled to my own opinions. Sadly for you, there isn't much you can do about it. I think a lot of the new Pokemon designs are stupid and that they could have come up with better ones.You don't have to agree with me. I realize that there are Pokemon based on Japanese tradition and folktales, and there have been since the first gen--Ninetales for instance. There is no way on earth that you can convince me that Probopass has a deep and meaningful background.
And by the way, thinking something is stupid does not in any way reflect on my level of intelligence, and if you intend to insult me at least type properly.

Now, I realize that she is simply just a rude person. But, did I really say anything antagonistic at all? I really don't think I did, and this is all...POKEMON!! YOU GUYS ITS POKEMON!!!
All I ever mean is that; Pokemon is a children's franchise that grew. There are Pokemon from even Gen 1 that are stupid. Look at Hitmonlee: He's a guy with his head squished into his body and he can kick reel good. Yeah, real unique design, gen 1! If that's not as bad as probopass, I don't know what is.
And there are repeats because... Well, we always need the little caterpie, pikachu and pidgey! You can't start a generation without them. Similarities are bound to happen when you reach the fifth game in a series. You need consistencies so that the people who love it will ooh and aww, and the people just coming in will get the same nostalgia when they see, say, Pachirisu as they did when we see Pikachu.
And I really don't think the designs are bad. Even Probopass. It is rude to say that the designs are poor and that fakemon are really better; rude to the designers, I mean. For what the pokemon are based off of, the designs are often extremely well done; even bidoof and probopass. It's a BEAVER POKEMON, what else could they have done?
I just don't get the people who are like this. I just feel like they're out to pick fights. People like this; who think the Gen 1 is always best or something; I think it's not really the designs but the nostalgia that gets them. I don't think it has anything to do with...well, anything but attachment. Let your poke mind expand :F nurrr. The world can't just be cute little eevees, you gotta have a few dunsparces and nosepass' and arceus' in there.
The easiest way to summarize them, I guess, is "Haters gonna hate"~ ufu.
