Chrome

Google launched their new web browser, called Chrome. It's now available for download (there's a link on their main google page).

Since I have an exam tomorrow morning and I yet finished even reading all the material for it for the first time, it made perfect sense to download and try it out.

First impression: I don't love it as much as Firefox. I mean, okay, it has a few advantages, like being able to display sites that never became Firefox-able (mainly Israeli ones), and the feature of automatcally creating in your start page links to frequently visited sites will probably come in handy. Rumor has it it also has some inherently different methods of dealing with tabbed content, etc., which should make working with tabs faster and less memory consuming.
But, when I first started working with Firefox - it was like reaching enlightment after years of working in the dark cold realm of Explorer. It was really something I could say was vastly superior to the alternative, no grains of salt added. It was simply a step forward. And with Google, I came to expect no less than a clear step forward, like their search engine and their email service were compared to the compatition. With Chrome, honestly, I don't feel an immidiate desire to stop using Firefox. I didn't fall in love, or even off my chair. It's nice, and possibly if I use it more I'll find in it features that will convert me, but so far, I'm not hooked.
(and, there is always the worrying aspect of having Google know even more about me, which was always masked by the pure superiority of the services they provided. I'm not sure I'm willing to pay this price for Chrome)
