I just got home after church, lunch, and a couple of errands, and I'm leaving in 1.5 hours for a concert. Whew! I think instead of trying to cut out the Lost Hope dress today, I'll just work on beading. Some of the outlines for beading are tricky, and my own pattern really is a best-guess interpretation. I kind of want to fight that out to my best ability now, rather than later; otherwise I may end up deciding to redo stuff. The good thing is that the skirt is almost entirely in larger beads. No tiny seed beads at all! I have to use a lot of the short bugle beads, but except for the side-by-side outlines they're still faster than tiny beads.
My errand was to Academy to get batting gloves! I'm going to use them for handbells. I think I mentioned that when playing double bells, I get bone bruises on the sides of my knuckles. I've solved that by padding my fingers with athletic
cohesive tape. That's worked well. It does, of course, make my fingers wider, and I've worn massive holes in the sides of my thin cotton gloves. (Besides poking out the fingertips on two or three fingers.) So I upgraded myself to batting gloves. They are tougher material than the cotton, and more stretchy. Plus, I found some that actually fit my hands decently well. (Narrow, long palm and long fingers.) The fingers almost fit, and they're not big around. They're very flexible, more so than the cotton ones, and have leather palms that will give more traction for the bell handles. They're also mostly black (required for performance) with just a little white logos; I'm going to cover those with electrical tape. Exciting!
I just realized I have choir rehearsal or performance every night this week. Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday are for Tenebrae at church, and then of course Friday Tenebrae itself (twice - a first for us). Tuesday is my regular rehearsal for Impressions (that's the concert in a few hours). Saturday morning is Easter service rehearsal, but surprise, I have another Impressions concert at the same time! And then Sunday morning, three services. I'm going to be exhausted. :( I'm already planning to quietly skip on Wednesday, though. Wednesday night is choir only instead of with orchestra, and it tends to be pretty tedious with a lot of picky little things with particular sections. I don't really need three rehearsals in a week anyway, and I've sung this music a number of times. So I think I'll be fine. And the evening of rest will be more than worth it.
Time to tape up some gloves and work with beads!
