Like smudges in pastels

Title: Like smudges in pastels
Author: creepylicious/alles_luege
Pairing: Gerard/Lindsey/Frank +Travis
Rating: PG-13
Summary: It's basically like this: Travis sprays the Ways' garage, gets caught, gets involved and kind of maybe (and he's not saying he is, okay? What does Gabe know anyway!) falls in love with the Ways and their tiny guitarist Frank.
“Okay,” Gabe answers, he sits up and looks at Bill, his lips curling a bit. It doesn't look particularly friendly. “I don't do it, but that's the reason why no one can fuck me over like that. I fuck people for the sheer pleasure of fucking. Not that you would know anything about that.”
Bill bites his lip so hard it whites out, but keeps quite. Travis thinks that that was really shitty of Gabe, especially because he said it to Bill. His fingers tighten on Bill's ankle. William lights a cigarette and inhales deeply. In a certain way it's like watching Gerard. Travis can't pinpoint it, but it's there. A certain, tangible similarity.
Warning(s): threesome

Travis doesn't stay away, doesn't quit the Ways and their tiny guitarist. He could never do that. Not anymore. He has a plan now or a vague idea of one. Even if this whole thing should end in heartbreak first, well. It would not be the freaking end of the world. They are his friends. They were his friends first and a stupid crush later (well, almost or that's how Travis likes to tell that tale). He can work this out.

But he doesn't stay with only one of them in a room, except for Gerard, because Gerard is a safe choice. He would never do anything. Never try anything and they only speak about art and music and all the other wonderful crazy things they both love.

Sometimes he catches Frank's gaze and holds it for a second, but not for longer. He’s just a teenager and Frank wants to make him decide and to do it now. He will do this his own way. Lindsey doesn't seem too concerned with all of this. She seems to be sure that everything will turn out okay. Maybe because it already did for her, them, once.

It gives Travis hope.

“Truly fucked over,” Gabe states.
Travis nods, there is nothing he could say to refute that statement. It's true as long as he doesn't tell them.

“Not helping,” Bill says with a look.

Gabe shrugs. “I just wanted to point it out.”

“We noticed your point and opinion on it. Should we write it down as well? For further generations?” Bill asks.

Gabe rolls his eyes. “You're such a bitch sometimes.”

Bill's face closes off and Travis grabs his ankle to stroke it. Bill takes a deep breath. Sometimes it seems like he has no defences against Gabe at all on other days it's like the only thing he has are defences.

“Bill's right. Not helpful,” Travis says.

“You're making stuff complicated and are whining on top of it all,” Gabe answers.

“Yeah?”

“Yeah. It's giving in and just being with Starfish and her boys or get the hell out of this and find someone else.”

“It's not that easy.”

“Why?”

“Because he is in love,” Bill answers for Travis.

“And that is the freaking problem. You don't mix love and sex.”

“No,” Bill says calmly and coldly like an ice-block., “you don't mix these two things “

“I want to kick you right now and hard,” Travis says to Gabe.

Gabe shrugs again. “It's a personal decision.”

“Still want to kick you.”

Sometimes Travis wonders how it would be with Lindsey. How she would feel. If he could call her Starfish like Gerard does? Whisper it into her ear as his fingers work between her legs, or grace a nipple softly to make her moan. He wonders if she's loud in bed, if she's demanding, if she likes to be in control now and then.

He wonders if he'll ever find that out.

“So, I know about your AA meetings,” Travis says quietly. He doesn't look away from the hipbone he's shading. He can hear Gerard's pencil make a funny noise on the paper.

“Lindsey told you?”

“When I asked, yes. But Bill saw you,” Travis answers.

“William, yes, you told me about him. The skinny kid...”

“The pretty kid, you mean,” Travis replies.

“Yeah. That too. So he saw me.”

“He did. I know that is why you're...well, I mean...” he stops, bites his lip. “You think you'll mess me up with all this.”

“I think I did already mess you up,” Gerard confesses and Travis turns to look at him. Gerard's eyes are on the paper. Travis watches his fingers work: smudge a bit to make the shading smoother, less linear. He usually does it with his pinky finger. His nails are short and bitten. Gerard has artist hands with calluses on the middle- and forefinger. They are kind of bony, but still strong with prominent bones and veins under pale skin. His own hands look large and clumsy in comparison.

“I think that too,” Travis answers and Gerard looks at him. “I didn't mean only you and it sure as hell was my fault as well.”

“You're just a kid,” Gerard says softly.

“No, you only think that because you're ten years older.”

“Travis...”

“No, hey, listen. It's okay to be all concerned and shit, but I am a black kid from the wrong side of town, but that doesn't make me a victim or weak or whatever. I can take care of myself. I can make my own decisions. I’m an adult.”

“You shouldn't be,” Gerard says.

“That's not the point and we can't change it anyway,” Travis answers.

“So, you think you can deal with this?”

Travis nods. He does think that. “Yeah.”

Gerard cocks his head and then bends down to grab his pack of cigarettes. He takes two out, hands one to Travis and lights the other. “Well, I don't.”

“I wouldn't be alone in this. This isn't only about you and me.”

“And that's where you're wrong, because it would be about you and me at some point. In fact this right now is about you and me. You pushing and me not giving in.”

“But you want to!” Travis says frustrated. Great, now Gerard is smirking like he just made a freaking point. “This is not me being a kid, Gerard,” Travis says, calmer all of a sudden. He reaches out and grabs a strand of Gerard's hair, that is tucked behind his ears. He yanks and Gerard gasps. “That is me making a fucking point,” he says earnestly. Gerard takes a deep drag of his cigarette. Travis watches his lips. He can't help himself

“Let go,” Gerard says.

“You don't want me to,” Travis answers.

Gerard blows smoke in his face and he coughs. “Obviously you have no sense for mood,” Gerard says. “Let go before I have to punch you and I really don't want to hit someone else's kid.”

Travis scowls, but lets go. “This isn't over.”

Gerard laughs and then takes another drag of his cigarette. He closes his sketchbook and gets up from the chair. “I'm going to ask what Frank’s making for dinner,” he says and leaves Travis alone.

“Okay...I have no idea what to say to that,” Bill admits.

“Yeah, right? Like one day he's turned on like whoa and then he's just not!”

“You wanted to kiss him.”

“Of freaking course. I am so deep in there is no way out now. Maybe with time, when I am with them, maybe the newness or whatever will fade. Maybe sex will cure me, like it cures Gabe's obsessions.”

“Gabe doesn't love anyone,” Bill says sharply.

“No, he doesn't love anyone he sleeps with,” Travis answers softly.

Bill sighs. “Talk to Misses Way. She is the only one who can help you.”

He calls Lindsey the next day.

“I'm in.”

“I gathered that from your failed attempt to seduce my husband,” she says with an easy laugh in her voice.

“Okay, I know that was kind of stupid-”

“No, I think it was cute, but you just don't know enough about his...well, special moods and needs. Stick to what you know,” she interrupts him.

“I only kissed guys before and fooled around a bit...but, well.”

“Okay,” she says.

“This means you're going to teach me the rest?”

“Yes and I bet it will be a lot of fun.”

“So, how are we going to win Gerard over?”

“He’s fighting this pretty hard, I have to admit. You have to make him believe you.”

“Believe what?”

“That you're in,” she says.

He bites his lip and takes a deep breath. “You know I am in love with you guys, right?”

Her voice is warm and smooth when she answers. He can practically feel it on his skin. “Yes, and we're in love with you too, so don't use the word crush.”

“That's how my generation handles these things,” he answers and she laughs. He misses her. “I miss you.”

“Yeah, we miss you too.”

“Give Frank a kiss from me?”

“Sure. Travis?”

“Yeah?”

“Frank and I will be in New York this weekend. I play replacement bass for one of his guys, so Gerard will be alone at home.”

“This is not so subtle, hmm?”

“Months,” she answers.

“Tell me about it. You guys have at least each other.”

“Make him believe you,” she says again.

He wants to answer her that he's going to try, but he says 'okay' instead and hangs up.
Mission Make Gerard Believe is so on. Of course he'll need a bit help from his friends, but hey, what are friends for anyway? Right?
