"I think I've fallen in love." John practically mumbled the words into his almost-empty beer.
Greg's eyes widened comically for a second, before his face split into a wide grin. He clapped John on the back. "John, you dog, should have known you wouldn't stay single for long! Let's get you another. On me," he added, signaling the barkeep. Once they were both furnished with fresh drinks, he turned back to John. "Tell me about her," he demanded. John sighed.
"It's not a her."
"Oh." Greg blinked, clearly surprised. "Um. Well then. That's...that's fine." He cleared his throat, fiddling with the edge of a paper napkin wilting under the damp base of his beer. "What's he like then?" he asked finally.
John licked his lips. It was now or never. "Actually, it's not exactly a 'he' either."
Greg's expression had gone from surprised to somber and was now edging into outright anxiety. "John," he lowered his voice, "you're not telling me--"
"No, no," John cut him off hurriedly before the DI could jump to an even more embarrassing conclusion than the reality, "it's not that."
Greg stayed silent, waiting for John to continue. John took a deep breath.
"Well, there's...there's this museum."
