Strange days

M had to leave early on Friday (said she was going out "fishing for men") and forgot to fetch our mail. So I took my courage in both hands and went down to the mailbox. A large envelope with unknown handwriting, but a return name that sent my heart thudding like it hasn't for a good while. It was from O. I haven't heard from O for about fifteen years, and the manner of our separating makes me cringe even today. I think she just got disgusted with me, and married a Canadian and went off to the other side of the pond. A mutual friend of ours, whom I bumped into a couple of years ago, informed me that O was apparently very happy, and had had two more children. I think of her on and off, always with fondness and sometimes with a sort of mixture of shame and regret. Such is the life of a lache. Anyway, the package was an art book about Pierre Lussier, of whom I had never heard. A quiet study of his tableau led to a genuine interest and appreciation of what he does within his sphere. I popped off an email to see what she's up to these days, and am anxiously awaiting her reply.

A beautiful two days in Geneva, with afternoon temperatures reaching a much appreciated 20 degrees. All windows open, and that feeling that winter is at long last over pervades. Nice.

Mr number2son is due in town on Tuesday, together with his lovely wife. It will be the second time they've been across in six months. Prior to that they'd never visited. Its strange how the death bed attracts some folk. The aged parents are towing number4son the week after, and then there's a break until May, when number1daughter and her heathen mate come to pay their last respects. Neither number4son nor number1daughter are bringing their young offspring, which is a bit of a disappointment. Perhaps they don't want the little ones to be scared by my state. I would have thought it would be a great opportunity to show them what will happen to them if they smoke.

By the way,go here and download the tune above. Brilliant mash-up. I've downloaded all the others as well, but War of Confusion is one of the better examples of the genre. Oops, check out Careless or Dead as well.
