I've heard you're a good singer. Is that right?

Yes! One of the best!

Why do you ask?

Someone suggested that I try to sing, so I was wondering if you could give me some lessons or some tips, at least.

Well, that depends. What kind of song are you hoping to sing?

I don't know.

Okay, well, why don't you turn your video feed on and try to sing something for me, and we'll attempt to discern your range. [Which... your pick! o/]

Alright.

[He nervously starts singing a soft, unrecognisable lullaby. He has a fairly good voice but it's obviously untrained.]

[YouTube link Singing starts about 1 minute in. Since it's the same actor I always imagine 11-12 sings the same. That's not the song he's actually singing IC but just to give you an idea of his voice.]

You have a lot of potential to sing really beautifully. But you need training. I can give you some tips and tricks to get you started, but I'm hardly a music teacher. I've just been taking lessons for... a very long time.

For starters, you should try to sing out of your belly instead of your throat, or you'll break your vocal chords. When you take a breath in, it shouldn't move your shoulders, the only thing that should inflate is your stomach. You should also practice by putting something in front of your mouth when you sing, and try singing directly onto that... object, directing all the space right in front of your front teeth to encourage forward placement. And other than that, it's a matter of learning to be on pitch. But that only comes with practice and regular lessons, unless you somehow have perfect pitch.

It sounds complicated...

What about singing a .. romantic song?

Singing takes a lot of practice and years of dedicated learning if you want to do it well.

I'm sure your lover wouldn't mind if you're slightly off-tune. Do you know how to read sheet music?

... No.

Maybe I should learn an instrument instead.

That's... just as difficult.

If you listen to a song long enough, are you able to copy it... decently?

I haven't really tried before. I listen to a lot of music but... I usually just listen.

Well, now would be a good time to try. If you'd like to use me to practice off of, I would be more than happy to tell you when you're flat or off, and what to work on.
