- CHARACTER INFORMATION
NAME: Faith Lehane
CODENAME: THAT BITCH N/A
SERIES/SOURCE: Buffy the Vampire Slayer
AGE: 23
GENDER: Female
ROLE: Villain
BACKGROUND: Faith was the only child born to an abusive father and an alcoholic mother some 23 years ago in a dingy little area in South Boston. As you can guess, this kicked her life off to a great start. Her father was arrested for murder when she was four, and she'd been raised believing he was dead, and whilst having his influence out of her life was fantastic, she still had an alcoholic mother who spent more time being distant or passed out than caring about her daughter. Instead, Faith turned to playing with her imaginary friend for comfort instead.
Eventually, she was suspended from school for fighting and lived alone for a time. Her mother had been arrested - though she didn't find this out for a while. She was put in foster care by her guidance counselor, and ashed her first vamp. Her foster family had been keeping their vampire son hidden in an attic and fed him unruly foster children. She accidentally pulled down a curtain, exposing him to sunlight, and fled back home, finding that her mother was seriously gone for good. She also discovered that her mother had been working as a prostitute under her boyfriend's instruction. She attacked one of her mother's old clients in a rage, and was arrested and institutionalised for observation.
After some time (including a rocky relationship with a young mutant - it's all rather messy) she was released from the centre into the care of a woman who taught Faith various fighting styles, how to fight with several different kinds of weapons and how to defend against vampires. Her powers manifested during this time too, when she was 17, which made her a far more effective vamp slaying machine. Of course, this is the kind of thing that makes quite the ruckus in the ~vampire underworld~ and a big, tough vamp by the name of Kakistos decided to bait Faith into a trap by kidnapping Dormer. When she arrived, Kakistos killed her, ripping her in two, and Faith killed all of his minions in a rage. However she was only able to wound Kakistos enough for her to be able to escape and she fled the scene.
Being on the run for a while eventually brought her to Sunnydale. Maybe through destiny, who knows. They have quite the vampire problem down there. She got along fairly well with Buffy and her friends to begin with, Buffy even helping her finally confront Kakistos and off him for realsies. But she felt like an outsider in this world, realising she - for whatever reason - was probably never going to be completely trusted, and that drove a wedge between her and the others. Not to mention coming to blows with Buffy once or twice about Angel - that's always the way to build a lasting friendship.
This, of course, only got better when Faith accidentally killed a man. Unable to deal with it, she went into denial about it being a big deal, and tried to pin the blame on Buffy when it became clear that Buffy was going to tell someone first. Of course, no one believed her, but they played along. Intending originally to help her come to terms with what had happened. And she made some progress! Oddly, with Angel who understood what she was going through, rather than any of the scoobies. But details, details.
That was all great, until someone got the errant idea that what she needed was tough love, and kidnapped her. Intending to bring her to a secure facility for reform, she attacked them and escaped. Feeling betrayed, and more full of rage and resentment than before, she decided she couldn't trust Buffy and her friends. Instead she went to a Mayor Wilkins after having killed his vampire assistant, offering to take up the position that had just recently opened.
She developed quite the bond with the good Mayor, he came to fill a father figure role in her life, spoiling her and all that. In return, she did odd jobs (mostly wetwork, I'll be honest) for him and the Brotherhood. She did this in-between purposefully messing with Buffy's life for a time, originally living a ~double life~ as part of Buffy's group of do gooders and a member of the Brotherhood, but that's the kind of thing you can't really keep secret forever, and as Buffy went on to join the X-Men, the truth came out about Faith.
Things went on kind of messily for a while, what with Faith's love of fighting things and trying to mess with Buffy's life. That is, of course, until a fight with the Buffster lands her in a coma that doctors predicted she'd never wake from.
Of course, there's that funny thing about a healing factor where it heals damage the normal human body wouldn't be able to, and she woke up from her coma about three years later, after the defeat of the Brotherhood and whatnot. She found out about the fall of the Brotherhood - and more importantly, the death of her not!dad - and pretty much flipped out, immediately deciding Buffy was to blame, and escaped from the hospital to track her - and anyone else involved in the fall - down.
PERSONALITY: I think "complete and total emotional fuckup" describes Faith pretty well.
Faith is someone who tries pretty hard to seem as though they're always okay. On the surface, to begin with, she was cheerful and sociable. Very open, warm and greeting. Though this has, over time, melted away to a darker, harder and more openly sadistic personality.
She's a firm believer in doing what she wants and making off like a bandit and has a painful inability to accept responsibility for her wrongdoings. Believing the universe is pretty much out to screw her over and haa even gone so far as to try and pin the blame for the man she killed on Buffy. She's tried to be nice, be helpful. All around good girl. But came to resent how no one noticed how hard she was trying and how the people around her were praised while she got jack. So she doesn't try anymore.
Faith, in her own opinion, has always been alone. She was raised believing her father had died, her mother was an alcoholic who spent more time drunk or passed out than anything else right up until getting arrested and subsequently cutting all ties with her daughter. Her foster family were keeping a vampire in the attic, so that kind of never worked out. She has a string of relationship disasters, and the people in her life that she opened up to often ended up being ripped out of her life. So Faith has a lot of trust issues. As far as she's concerened, you can't trust people, because one way or another, they'll hurt you and she's just not up for that.
Faith, outwardly, revels in the way she is. She appears to embrace being a psychotic killer prone to fits of rage and jealousy, but deep down she hates herself. She always has and it's only gotten worse. She seems to enjoy pushing buttons, mocking people who appear to want to help her and seeing how far she can push until they give up, but at the same time she doesn't want people to give up on her and reacts pretty violently when they do. When everyone's given up on her, that's when she really must be beyond help, and she doesn't want that.
She loves the power her strength gives her, sees no reason why those pesky human rules should apply to her. Even when fighting the good fight, she saw herself as operating outside the law. As far as she is concerned, if she wants something, there's no reason she shouldn't have it. Hell, by doing the whole ashing vamps and whatnot thing, she's doing the world a service. Who cares if she lifts a jacket here or there?
She resents Buffy in a way a younger sibling might, after feeling as though being constantly compared to the elder. Only much more intense and violent. Similarly to how she considers herself Buffy's road not taken, she resents Buffy for having all the breaks Faith never had. In a lot of ways, she feels as though Buffy took these things from her, rather than it just being the luck of the draw. She's obsessed, more than anything, with taking away everything Buffy has. Even more now after her epic coma. Now that the good Mayor is dead and the Brotherhood has apparently fallen, she blames Buffy for this more than anything or anyone else.
She's more than a little bit crazy and obsessed, yeah.
APPEARANCE: Faith's about average height and weight. A little on the pale side, at least after not seeing much sun for three years. She has fairly long, dark brown hair that curls towards the ends (though sometimes she straightens it on a whim). She favours dark clothes, leather, boots, etc. over much else
POWERS: Superhuman is the term, I do believe. Harder, better, faster, stronger, etc.
Faith is strong enough to say, put her fist through a wall, but not to rip the damn thing off the side of a building. (Though with Faith, it's hard to say how much of this is her super strength and not just her unadulterated rage.) She's incredibly fast (though not a speedster) with enhanced reflexes and agility to go with it. She also has heightened resilience and accelerated healing (which really comes in handy for waking up from permanent comas). Heightened senses too, which comes in handy for when one has to punch things in the dark.
She has the occasional prophetic dream, though these are far and few between and almost impossible to decipher than not. More often than not, these involve Buffy. Understandably, she isn't pleased.
In short: She punches things hard, moves pretty fast, and has wacky dreams.
ANYTHING ELSE?:Nnnope
- RP SAMPLES
First-person sample: Alright, listen up. I don't play well with others, and I play especially badly when they get in the way, so we're gonna lay down some rules.
Rule the first: You do what I tell you, when I tell you. Things are gonna be messy and - I'll be honest - a lot of you might die. You're all kinda red shirts like that. But if you mess this up? I'll kill you. And I won't be quick about it.
Stick to this, and I'm sure we'll all be five-by-five.
Third-person sample: "Things that pissed Faith off," was generally a short list. For the most part, things tended to simply roll off her back. She had bigger demons to battle and all. But "annoying recruits who couldn't learn their place," was quickly working its way to the top of that list.
It was true that she wasn't the most adept leader, she wouldn't deny that. Well, not to herself, at least. But she knew more about the old Brotherhood than anyone else involved right now, and senority was generally a good enough reason not to have her position questioned, right? The fact that she could put most anyone else involved in this through a wall or several should've been enough to back up her position. Though apparently she was wrong about that.
It was also true that she was in this more for getting back at certain people than anything else. Truth be told, she only gave the vaguest of damns about anyone's goals but her own at this point in time. Whilst they may not have been the same as those of anyone else around her, the first steps were the same no matter what. That too, should've been enough to get people to sit down and shut up, but of course it was just her luck that the people most able and willing to "join the cause" were of course, the vocal types who felt the need to share their opinion on everything as if anyone cared.
The first thing she'd do when this was over, she thought to herself, was take a nice long vacation. Somewhere out of the way, with no errant vamps or goodie two shoes. Stuff like that. A good club scene wouldn't hurt either. Until then, however. Well. Time to get to work.
