I submitted a screenplay to this festival because I really liked their mission statement (which doesn't appear to be posted on their site anymore, damn it). Essentially, the founders were encouraging entries of an offensive, provocative, decidedly un-PC nature. I figured my most recent completed script, Hangman Days, would fill the bill. Yet that mentality is always problematic for me: I have written things over my lifetime that I consider well past the standards of what Normal Folk would consider "acceptable" in terms of sex and violence, but then a film like Salo or Irreversible or The Girl Next Door crosses my radar, and I realize I could damn hell well have gone that much further.
In any case:

And just for the hell of it:

Thank you to everyone who submitted to this years festival. It was truly a pleasure to screen and read all of your amazing work! With all the great projects it was a very difficult to pick the winners. You all deserve the exposure.
As many of you know we announced the winners on our website on May 1st. but for those of you who haven't yet seen them you can view them at: www.undergroundexposurefest.com/winners
Also check out the top 50 screenplays out of the 235 submissions we received at: www.undergroundexposurefest.com/top-50-screenplays
Again, thank you all! I expect I'll be seeing a lot of your names and projects in the film seen [sic] in the years to come.
