For about the past week or so, there was a cute ersatz-tabby cat hanging around our Feline YMCA. As we already have five Epsilon Males, we were unable to take him in (my suggestion of building an addition just to house strays was predictably shot down). A neighbor suggested a word-of-mouth "mom and pop" operation for cats and dogs (nice bonus: it's a no-kill shelter) that would neuter and vaccinate him and give care until he got adopted. On Tuesday night, my stepmother and I took him over, and it was kind of sad: the shelter itself was a nice, clean place, but to see the little guy--who was always very friendly and approachable--become fidgety and frightened at the new environment brought me down a little (he was trying to push his head through the bars of the pet carrier on the ride over, and the high-ceilinged steel bungalow he was placed in).
