Best/Worst Movies of 2006 (blah blah blah)

Feb 21, 2007 13:58

In a rare moment of down time in the ever-busy world of Collection Development, I have finally finished my selection of the best/worst/most mediocre films of 2006. Since people seem to respond more to numbers accompanied by titles in descending order than any critical reasoning for the inclusion/exclusion of a certain film, here is the simplified version (there will be some slight overlap from 2005):

The Best:

1. The Departed
2. The Squid and the Whale
3. Little Miss Sunshine
4. Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist
5. Edmond
6. The Hills Have Eyes
7. The Proposition
8. The Black Dahlia
9. Saw III
10. Over the Hedge

Worth a Look:

Art School Confidential
The Descent
Desperation (one of the best Stephen King adaptations, period)
An Inconvenient Truth
Tenacious D in: The Pick of Destiny
This Film is Not Yet Rated
The Woods

Disappointments (invoking Abraham Simpson: “For shaaaaame!”):

Apocalypto
Babel
Cars
Hard Candy
Inside Man
Monster House
The Omen
Pan’s Labyrinth
The Prestige
Slither
Snakes on a Plane
Thank You for Smoking

The Worst:

1. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning
2. Lucky Number Slevin
3. Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby
4. Hostel
5. Man of the Year

Any interested (bored) parties can feel free to debate my reasoning if so inclined.

(On an unrelated note: is it wrong that birthdays no longer inspire any excitement in my heart?)
