David peered into the box. “You’ve got to be kidding.”
“Sorry,” Don said, holding his hands up in a ‘don’t shoot the messenger’ gesture, though it was belied by the huge grin. “They needed some guys the perps wouldn’t already have made.”
“And you volunteered us,” Colby complained.
“No, actually, Liz suggested you two.”
“Really?” David said, glaring at Colby.
“Why is this suddenly my fault? At least you’ve got a full uniform.” He nodded at David’s police officer costume, and then stared balefully at his own undercover costume. “All I’ve got is . . . these.” He held up the tear-away chaps.
