That might be Child Of My Heart, by 2headsRbetter (dHall and AliceI). It's a long WIP which hasn't been updated since August 2007, but it sounds a lot like what you are asking for.

Brilliant! That's the one. I tried every combination on Goggle to try and find it, but it is listed as a Charlie fic so....

Shame it was never finished.
