Three words: Lieutenant Gary Walker. I love this episode for bringing him to us. He was always one of my favorite recurring characters. I missed him in Season 5 & 6 but I was glad he got to come back after this episode.

I loved Charlie's idealism here - believing that he could do so much to bring down gangs with math. I missed that part of Charlie in later seasons, although understandably you can't be that idealistic or you'll go nuts.

I won't mention Robin here. Hated her with the fire of a thousand suns until the end of Season 6 so... we'll just slide on past.

Ummmmmmm... random note: I am always amused during this episode because Lt. Gary Walker is the father of my OFC when I write fic, and my OFC is in love with Colby. So, imagine the fun I have when Colby has to be in the room interrogating Gary in this episode. hehehe.

David. David. David. I love him soooooooooooooo much. It's ridiculous. This was a great episode to see a little more into his soul. Loved him at the community center at the end. *happy sigh

Gary Walker, YAY!!!! I was so excited to realize this was that episode. OMG. When he showed up, I half-expected him to be the stereotypical dirty cop (much like I half-expected Colby to be the stereotypical dumb jock army guy) but he was a much more thoughtful, deep character than that.

I know Robin makes a really bad first impression, but I just adore Megan and Colby's facial expressions during her first rant about how she's not giving up the ongoing investigation for this. They were perfect!

I don't know that I ever totally warmed up to Robin, but I think I eventually softened my stance because Don sold it that he was in love with her.

I loved Charlie's idealism here - believing that he could do so much to bring down gangs with math.I just feel so much heartbreak for him in this ep, because I think it really woke him up to his own idealism ( ... )

I accepted Robin because of Don. But she earned my love in "Arrow of Time" while interrogating the guy who escaped with Buck Winters. She was trying to protect Don. The anger and power she had against McLaughlin proved to me how deep she love Don. Truly intimidating.
Robin: "Here's your deal. Accessory after the fact."
McLaughlin: "To what?"
Robin: "Everything... you facilitated an escape, which means that you are culpable for every crime that I can prove as a result of that escape. Winters and Lansky... they steal a car? It's on you. They rob a bank? It's like you were driving the car. They kill a federal agent? I got good seats in the gallery, watching them cook you. Go ahead, doubt me. Put your little jailhouse law degree against mine. And then take a look at the clock and try to figure out how many more crimes your partners are putting on your tab while you sit there and don't talk."
She's a force too. Don deserves someone with that kind of power.

See, I never got that Robin gave a poo about Don until the end of Season 6. She just wasn't a very friendly, inviting character.

Plus, I can't forgive the writer's for the craptastic way they brought Robin back in Checkmate. I'm sorry - maybe some folks forgot that SHE was the one that left Don and broke his heart but then she made HIM apologize for it in Checkmate? If Don had left her in Blackout, then no one would have expected Don to make Robin apologize. It just irked me. Still does. He deserved better than that.
