Thank you so, so much for my wonderful fic! I would have been excited by new Colby fic of any description but to have it Ian/Colby and post-Ultimatum almost made me explode. And then with added angst and handcuffs - I’m surprised I’m still able to type, to be honest. ;) Oh, and just for the record - brilliant title!

I love the character insights you give, not only into Colby and Ian but also Nikki. It makes a lot of sense that much of what attracted Ian to her is also why they wouldn't ultimately work out. And I grinned rather too widely at Colby's oh-so-inexplicable disappointment at Nikki's conclusion re Ian and relationships. Oh, Colby.

I liked that Colby thanked Charlie specifically, and it also gave a chance to hear Colby’s thouhts both on having a gun shoved in his face and his analysis on how things might have worked out had Ian not backed down. Very interesting, and probably exactly how it would have gone.

Grasping for an explanation, Colby said, “I was just thinking of something for my report.”

“Uh huh,” David said, sounding thoroughly unconvinced. “That might wash if I’d not watched you print out and sign your report already.”

Heeee! Oh Colby, never try to get the better of David. You never will.

Okay, I love your Ian. He’s so aware of everything and everyone, he knows he can trust in his instincts, and he’s so damn - well, I was going to say arrogant but perhaps supremely confident might be more accurate. I love the way he locks the door behind himself. *rolls eyes* And then Colby punches him! Like Ian, I never saw that one coming!

I love that every time Ian thinks he has him pegged, every single time, Colby surprises him. And that - that’s what first intrigues Ian and makes this seem likes it's definitely going to be more than a one-time thing. And then there's that moment of realisation, of openness they share. I love it.

“You do this often?” he asked, a little surprised, because it paid to be discreet in their line of work. And a little jealous if he was honest with himself.

Oh Colby, so shameless. *g* And Ian, so jealous!

Oooooo, and good call, definitely the right call to make about the lack of cuffs today, Ian, though, along with Colby and Ian, I too would very much enjoy it were they to use them on another occasion.

Just as Ian was about to tip over the edge into sleep, Colby whispered, quite casually, “In the morning, I’m going to fuck you in the shower.”

Ian’s eyes flew open and his breath caught. That promise was almost enough to get him going again right now, his dick giving a valiant twitch. At the very least it deserved some serious kissing, but when he tipped his head down to look at Colby, instead of the wicked grin he expected, he found the man was out cold.

“Bastard!” he muttered as his head dropped back onto the pillows. Sleep had deserted him and he lay there for some time, plotting his revenge,

Oh, they really are a match for one another, aren’t they?

I love this fic so very, very much. Thank you so much for taking my wonderings and working them into something that was such a lovely character study of two of my favourite characters and also with some very hot sex. *fans self* I ♥ you, anonymous author.

Ok, so things seem to have ground to a halt here and I've been desperate to reply to such lovely feedback all this time, so I'm going to de-anon myself ::waves::

I'm so pleased that you not only liked my first attempt at a Numb3rs fic, but that you liked it so much that the feedback was almost as long as the fic!

I'm glad the characterisations worked. I wanted to deal with Nikki in a way that didn't paint Ian or Nikki in an unfair light and it seemed to fit that Nikki's take-charge energy would initially intrigue Ian, but would end up clashing with his own brand of intensity, whereas Colby has the inner steel, but a calmer exterior, so he won't be pushed around, but he won't be too demanding either.

I've been wondering about post-Ultimatum for some time, as I said in my notes, the show, by necessity, has to hit the reset button by the end of the ep, so everyone's made up and over it, but I wondered 'what if?'. I just wasn't brave enough to tackle the characters until a moment of madness had me sign up for this and then I just had to get on with it. I had wondered about the impact on an established relationship, but I do love writing first time fic, and it added a level of uncertainty that an established couple might not have.

It amused me to have Colby keep tripping Ian up just when he thought he'd got him figured out, but I also thought it would be just the sort of thing Ian would find attractive, because he's so used to getting into people's heads to catch them and here's a man he can't quite predict. Another reason why, at the risk of being a little unfair to Nikki, that relationship wouldn't have lasted - Nikki is intense, but it's all out there on her sleeve, she doesn't seem the sort to hold anything in reserve, whereas Colby has all these little facets that would keep Ian's attention.

I have plans for another fic with this pairing, but I have no idea when it will get written, as I also have plans for several Stargate:Atlantis fics and an SGA crossover with Supernatural and no idea which one will get done first.

Anyway, I'm off to be even more naughty and post my story all over the place, as I think it's been inactive here for long enough to justify revealing myself and posting for a wider audience.

I meant to say in my original feedback that my prompt was something of a stream of consciousness of different aspects of Ultimatum reactions that I'd like to see; I didn't expect that they would *all* be filled, so you did absolutely amazingly to cover as much as you did!

I agree with your take on Nikki/Ian but the latter part of your statement particularly interested me because for me, it's a large part of why a relationship between Ian and Colby (and also Ian and Don) could actually work.

I'm very glad you did sign up! I think I followed the same route as you; signing up for this resulted in my first piece of Numb3rs fic, and it's all been downhill from there on. *g* I can see that the events of the episode would have a different sort of tension if it were to take place within an established relationship, and the fallout would be spectacular (and fun!), but I'm not sure quite how well it would work. That's not to say I wouldn't love to read somebody's take on it who *makes* it work, of course. :)
