While Don's Away... (A Kitten Story)

Charlie climbed the steps up to Don's apartment, carrying what appeared to be a large black laundry basket in his arms. Alan followed behind his son, carrying a similar basket.

Charlie opened the door to Don's apartment, setting the basket down on the floor by the door. He darted back down the stairs to his father's car, retrieving the animal carrier resting on the backseat. He locked the car and headed back up.

When he returned to the apartment, Alan was emptying the first basket. He filled the litter box, setting it so that visitors wouldn't see it or step in it. He set up the stratching post in another corner of the room, placing the cat bed next to it.

Charlie set the carrier down on the couch and carried the second basket into the kitchen. He set the kitten food down on the counter. He called out, "Hey, Dad. Think we should steal Don's steaks so he can't try to feed them to the poor girl?"

Alan chuckled and called back, "If your brother comes after you, I'm not going to protect you."

Charlie thought for a moment and then grinned. He pulled the cat dishes out of the basket. Filling them both, he set them down next to the fridge. He pulled Don's steaks out of the freezer, putting them in the now empty basket. He scribbled out a note and stuck it on the fridge before he picked up the basket and returned to the living room.

As Charlie stepped into the living room, Alan was just lifted the tiny kitten from the carrier.

Don -
Dad and I decided you need a pet of your own so you could stop trying to steal Heisenberg. We thought a cat would be perfect for you, as they're quite independent and she can entertain herself while you're working. DON'T FORGET TO FEED HER!
- Charlie
