I shouldn't be surprised really, knowing what usually passes for current affairs on the inane news programme Close Up.
Tonight there was a worthy segment on
Emma Agnew (young deaf Christchurch woman, whose body was found after a 12 day search - a tragedy
), a worthy segment on
Emily Welch who today smashed the solo woman's shearing record for 'strongwool lambs' by over 100 sheep (awesome stuff!*), followed by segment on Nikki Watson (NZ celeb who's famous ... for being a celebrity, I guess) crying and offering a reward for her missing chihuahua!
At least the presenter had the good conscience to look slightly embarrassed by the last story when he was doing the intros. Needless to say I didn't feel compelled to watch the stupid dog story -- or rather, the 'poor lost doggie with stupid owner' story ...
Cripes.
What's that saying with the handcarts and hell?
* But good luck finding a decent online news article (apart from
this one) about that. This girl deserves way more recognition!
