Well, it's time for another Christmas Eve journal entry. I looked back on the
entry from a
year ago and started reflecting
on how the past year has gone. In some ways, it seems like just yesterday, but
in more ways, it seems like ages ago. I stayed in Provo and worked for
BYU's
Independent Study program until September rolled around. During that time
I met some wonderful people, but I confess that most of those wonderful people
were people I only met online. After I stopped going to school at BYU I spent
most of my time in my room, though it didn't stop people from trying to show
me that the
church was true.
Oh well. There is still nothing like jamming with Jason and whoever else might
happen to be in the band at the time. I did that for a little while a couple
nights ago, which was fun as always.
After Utah, I came home for a month, and spent time doing websites for people
to keep a little cash coming in so I could put off looking for a job. I really
do hate looking for jobs. It reminds me of how for the past few years I've been
loathing going to dances. I would make up my mind to go ask girls to dance,
but as soon as I would get there, I would think, "What's the point?"
I simply didn't feel like putting myself up for all sorts of people to examine
and judge. (I realize that I'm writing this for a potential audience of millions,
but in actuality I think that no more than half a dozen people ever come here
more than once or twice.) And when I heard that Barnes and Noble was opening
down the street, I decided that it was time to live my dream--well, my nice
thought--of working in a bookstore, which has been my life for the last couple
months.
Speaking of which, I just got back from a little dinner that the cafe manager
treated me and and a few of the other cafe employees too. It was a lot of fun,
and we did a gift exchange in which I got some Ralph Lauren towels, some really
good cookies, and a set of miniature vases. When I got home, the Pruetts (Jason's
family) stopped by the house and did some quality Christmas caroling, complete
with a guitar and several different voices and parts. They're a pretty musical
family. Then as we're in the kitchen having hot apple cider, the Hendricks also
come caroling, and we all sing We Wish You A Merry Christmas. It reminded me
a bit of It's a Wonderful Life, which happens to be showing on the
television right now.
I hope everyone out there is having a wonderful Christmas. Love you.
