My boss calls me in a panic yesterday night.
He can't get into his email.
Yes, this is bad.
I get his machine, and once again he's got a .pst file that's WAY over 2 gig. And since he's using Outlook 2000 (don't ask) outlook just chokes on trying to open it.
I spend 5 hours last night and another hour this morning trying to deal with this. I get as far as making outlook not hang and still do things like "receive mail." But anything beyond that, like "open old folders" and such is just out of reach.
We have all his pst files backed up multiple times. But that helps us not even a little if we don't have anything that can deal with the %$^# files.
He's panicking, I'm out of ideas. This? This is not good.
On the one hand, I'm pissed that he let it get so bad. On the other hand...well, he is the president of a company, he gets a shitton of mail in a day, almost all of it featuring large word and excel attachements, so his mailbox does grow extraordinarily fast.
Ideally I'd like to get him using something like Thunderbird, where at least if something crashes the email is more easily readable.
idiocy,
work
