Really? AGAIN?

After all that rain, I was feeling nicely smug that the basement had been dry.

I was on the phone with Wendy. "We've been doing really well with that." I said.

Then the power failed.

My first thought was to shut down the computers on UPSes that were shrieking at me.

Then I thought..."oh shit, the sump pump..."

Sure enough, I saw water seeping out of the sump pit.

CRAP.

Luckily, having learned my lesson in floods before, everything was up off the floor with the exception of a few toolboxes and random things that didn't make a whole lotta difference to me.

I realized I needed to scramble and find power.

Then I realized I wasn't wearing pants.

Pants. Find pants. Okay, check. Run outside, see if there's power elsewhere in the neighborhood. I couldn't see any.

I started panicking a bit. My neighbors leaped into action - scouring the area for generators, etc. I ran off to Home Despot to get a generator, while the Shermans two houses down, Tom next door, and Gunnar from across the street grabbed extension cords and ran about 200ft of extension cord from Gunnar's house (he still had power) through the window into the basement to get the sump running again. I got home with the generator, and got that up and running with the assistance of the Shermans' 5-year-olds Aron and Maya.

So we did get some water inside, but it was manageable, nothing got damaged, and now I HAVE A GENERATOR!!! The studio stayed dry - yay raised floor!

My neighbors are seven kinds of awesome.

flood, water
