Summary: Can the crush from his economics class be a successful business partner or will feelings get in the way of profit.
"You know it is hard to make any money when you eat all our product first." Jinyoung says while swiping the cupcake Junghwan was about to stuff into his mouth from his hands.
Junghwan glares at Jinyoung, "Its one cupcake, it isn't going to hurt anything." And to prove his point he quickly finishes the frosting on another cupcake he was preparing and stuffed it into his mouth so fast that Jinyoung didn't have time to snatch it away. Frosting ringed his lips and his already squishy looking cheeks puffed out around the giant mouthful.
JInyoung shakes his head in disgust and walks away muttering about revenue and supply costs. Stuff that Junghwan really did not care about. He was in the business because he loved sweets. When Jinyoung approached him in their shared economics class about starting up a bakery, Junghwan had agreed so quickly he forgot to listen to the rest.
Of course it helped that not only did he love sweets but Jinyoung was his crush. It hadn't mattered what Jinyoung said to him at that time because he was internally freaking out that his crush was speaking to him. How did Jinyoung know that Junghwan liked him? He made sure each class to arrive early so he could snag a coveted seat in the back of the room where he would be able to see Jinyoung no matter what. The thin, red headed, stylish Jinyoung had a group of friends that were always flocked around him at all times. It had made it hard for Junghwan to ever even approach him.
But reality hit Junghwan fast, Jinyoung only asked him to help because Junghwan was known for his cupcakes. He would bring them to class for anyone's birthday or special event. He loved to bake and eat. Jinyoung was a business major and saw money and opportunity to make money in everything. Whereas Junghwan was only in the economics class because it was a requirement. He actually studied journalism and photography. So economics was the only time he ever really got to see Jinyoung. But now he got to see him every day, it was kind of a blessing and kind of a curse.
Their business started pretty humbly despite Jinyoung coming from a rich family they were not given a lot of start up cash. So they baked and packaged out of Junghwan's apartment and sold their products from a repurposed hot dog stand that Jinyoung had found on ebay. And between classes one of them would go out and man the shop selling cupcakes and cookies to the passing students.
Sometimes they would get chased away by campus security who would come up and tell them to get out of the street because they were blocking traffic. Which was hardly the case, their customers usually kept nice lines but the campus didn't encourage people making money on their grounds.
Usually they took turns manning the cart so Junghwan would spend his idle time day dreaming about a future where he and Jinyoung owned a legitimate bakery. He could just see Jinyoung in a cute apron with flour on his cheeks rolling dough. Junghwan would come up beside him and wipe the flour away softly and Jinyoung would turn his head and smoosh their lips together, and all thoughts of baking would fall from both their minds as they kissed and touched and ...
"Junghwan!" Jinyoung waves his hand in front of his face, "Hey, you in there? "
Junghwan shakes his head of his fantasy, his cheeks heating up upon seeing JInyoung standing there in his sleek black pants and long button up coat. Thankfully Jinyoung was not a mind reader. Or maybe not thankfully, what if Jinyoung liked Junghwan as much as Junghwan liked Jinyoung but he just didn't know how to say it? Of course this thought went through Junghwan's head almost daily but he had yet to work up the courage to actually confess to Jinyoung.
"Someone could have just waltzed right up here and stolen every last cupcake and cookie from you while you starred off into space." Jinyoung had put his hands on his hips and was lecturing, and somehow Junghwan found it incredibly adorable.
"I like you." Junghwan finds himself blurting it out. Like suddenly just thinking about how he never had the courage had shot the words out of his mouth. They fell to the ground and shattered. He could see it, the letters smashing to the ground all around his feet. He couldn't put them back together now. Jinyoung heard them they were out there.
Jinyoung stops mid sentence about responsibility, his face changing from anger to confusion, "You what?"
Junghwan wants to reply, he does, but his words are broken at his feet and he just wants to break down into pieces and mingle among them. His mouth opens and closes around words that just won't come out. He tries to smile but he thinks maybe he is crying instead. It makes no sense to him when Jinyoung walks from the front of the cart, where he had been standing and lecturing, to his side.
It makes even less sense when Jinyoung's arms wrap around his body and pull him in close. It is exactly what Junghwan had dreamed about for months. Being in Jinyoung's arms feels amazing though he notes with a tinge of sadness that he feels even thinner than he looks. Junghwan puts his arms around Jinyoung and stuffs his face into the crook of Jinyoung's neck. He's shaking and trying hard not to.
"I like you too." Jinyoung whispers into Junghwan's hair. "Why do you think I picked you to be my business partner?"
Jinyoung forcibly pushes Junghwan back from him, holding onto his shoulders.. To Junghwan's surprise he is actually quite strong, "I don't even eat sweets usually. Why would I want to be in a business of selling them?"
Junghwan stares back at Jinyoung feeling like he can't quite grasp the situation still. Was Jinyoung telling him that he liked him back and that he had since the beginning? This was impossible. Maybe he was still daydreaming. Inception day dreaming. Yes, that had to be the answer although he never day dreamed about becoming a mute when his love confessed to him. He needed to fix that.
"You like me?" Junghwan says and his voice cracks embarrassingly on the end of the question all high and scratchy. He swallows and continues, "You've liked me all along? Why didn't you say anything?"
Jinyoung blushes, something Junghwan thinks he has even seen the man do before and suddenly wishes he had his camera so he could capture the rare act to keep forever. "Well, you never said anything either. I had no idea and you were always with that one tall girl with glasses. I thought you two were dating."
Junghwan can't help but laugh tall girl with glasses, hah, Shinwoo was going to die when he heard that another person thought he was a girl. "Shinwoo? You thought I dated Shinwoo?"
Jinyoung nods and pulls his arms to himself, crossing them across his body. "You two were always so close. I would see you heads together looking over photographs and news clippings all the time. I just..." Jinyoung shrugs his shoulders and stares at Junghwan. He knew that he had to say the next part right or Jinyoung would shy away and he would lose this golden opportunity.
"Shinwoo is a guy for starters." He says and holds up a finger to let Jinyoung know he is going to continue. "And no, we are not dating. We work together on some of our journalism projects."
This time Junghwan is the one to reach out and pull Jinyoung into an embrace. He puts his lips to Jinyoung's ear. "I like you. And just you."
Where he found the courage to do that he doesn't know but when Jinyoung's hands reach up and pull Junghwan's face to his, Junghwan thinks he sees stars and hopes that he was wrong about the day dream inception because this was better than anything he had dreamed up.
