okay yes I have been spamming this question everywhere but it's really important to me

I've already asked Chuubits so she can sit out (and ILU)

I've always been drawing as a hobby, but how many of you think I have what it takes to go pro?

I'd really appreciate honest input on this one, so Anon enabled, IP logging off and all that! honestly sorry ( Read more... )

My first reaction is to say that I'd like to believe you have a chance, but realistically it depends on what area of illustration/art you're going into, how hard you want to work and how much you want to make through it. I don't know whether you're thinking about art as your full time job or whether you're going to supplement it with any other part time thing, whether you're going to get extra training in things like vectors and 3D imaging, whether you aim to work freelance or try to work in a company, and then what kind of company - publishing/book illustration, newspaper/magazines, game development, comics/manga etc. I don't know that much about the art industry but I guess those are all things you're going to have to keep in mind.

In terms of skill, I think your art is good; you've put a lot of work into developing it, and it shows. I believe you have a distinctive style that can be developed into something properly unique. While there is always room for improvement, I can definitely see the potential for you to become a pretty damn good/successful illustrator in your chosen field. I'm pretty sure I know of "pros" with less technical skill than you over here and while I think the standard is different, I'm pretty sure that still counts for something. Most freelance artists and illustrators have to a) know how to market themselves b) have connections (and if they don't they have networking skills) and c) be competitive and willing to fight for jobs against other very talented people without worrying abut their skill. I think a lot of them also supplement with doing part time jobs too but idk. It's a tough life but all life is tough so i guess it's not that different lol.

In short I DO think you have the capability but I also believe you're going to have to work damn hard, to improve your art and to get a steady job - it's just whether you're up to it. I think you can do it but it'll be a p difficult road and you'll need all the support you can get. I WILL BE HERE NO MATTER WHAT YOU CHOOSE so hang in there Ellie and BEST OF LUCK <33

... lmao yes this exactly; I've basically learnt that everything in life stinks balls anyway so I was considering... at least going for a career field that I have more emotional attachment to. THANK YOU SO MUCH, MIYUN. You have no idea how much this means to me right now ;_; I honestly can't express how. I want to fly over to the UK right now and give you so many hugs sob I love you so much

Thank you again!! ♥ ♥
