Soooooo, last Sunday, I have some skydiving adventures!! Obviously I survived to tell the tale, and that's exactly what this post will be about! With PICTURES! *_*
The night before, I didn't slept well because I was way toooo excited. And perhaps a little bit scared. But I woke up early in the morning, filled with energy and adrenaline. Nath picked me up and we had breakfast together. While talking to her, I discovered that we like the same music and the same kind of activities. I had tons of fun talking with her during the car ride. We decided to take the ferry to cross the St-Lawrence River. That was also fun.
So we arrived at the jumping base, after getting slightly lost ^^;;; but at least we were on time. Only to find out that Steeve called the rendez-vous a whole hour before the real time XD But we were able to watch other people jump and land. It helped me a lot getting less stressed about the jump, but it didn't help at all with the excitement XD I was like a kid at Christmas.
2PM arrived faster than I thought and it was our turn to jump. We had a very fast, very short lesson on what to do while free falling to make sure we don't fly out of control. Than we geared up and met our instructors. Mine was named Dan and he was the one giving us the lesson. So I happily told Steeve about it, saying that I at least was sure not to crash. To which his instructor replied: "True, Dan is the one that has lost the less customers. But the ones he loses, we never found them". It totally sent me into fits of laughter. I had spent the whole week before joking about crashing and all.
We walked to the plane, during which Nath told us every time she does something awesome like this, something always go wrong. We brushed it off, laughing until we saw the front of the plane smoking slightly. we blamed it on her, jokingly, and it actually turned out that the pilot had forgotten to pull out the turbine or something. So we had to wait 15 more minutes before boarding the plane. My cameraman/photograph (Rich, the CUTEST guy ever!) took advantage of the free time to get some pics of the group:
From left to right: Nath, Hoishi, me and Steeve.
We finally boarded the plane and lifted up quickly, to much cheering and laughing, mostly from our instructors. We had to fly 15 minutes to get to our jumping height: 13500 feet in the air. During which we talked a lot, revised our manoeuvers and got strapped to our instructors:
That's me and my instructor. As you can see, we really bonded well, which was a good thing for me. One of my fears was not to get along with my instructor. This was taken at about 4000 feet in the air.
About 12000 feet in the air. See how white I am? My cameraman had just told me that we would be jumping in less than 5 minutes. All I could think of was "Must no puke, must not die" XD I didn't feel queezy at all, I just didn't want to cover my instructor with my half-digested breakfast XD What the picture doesn't show is how close and tight you get strapped to your instructor. Let's just say that I was VERY intime with him. And was definetely reminded that he was a male XD
5 secs before jumping. The only moment I had that "WTF was I thinking???" thought. Take a deep breath, this is a long plunge......
Definetely too late to chicken out!
Once we were stabilized, I had the time of my life. Freefall feels like floating. I felt alone in the world, completely at peace with myself. When I jumped, it felt like I had given myself over to my Fate, to God. I know it may sound weird, but I have learned to let go of things not in my control.
The view was really beautiful from 13500 feet. How can one not feel alone and peaceful in such scenery?
I never truly realized we were falling until we passed through a cloud. Surprisingly, they are not made of white cotton candy. Yes I was trying to taste it XD
After 60 secs of freefall at cruising speed of 200km/h, and about 10 minutes of flight with the opened parachute, we sadly had to land. We landed on out feet like pros. And already I wanted to go back up again.
This jump was first. But certainly not my last. Hoshi, Nath and I are looking into getting our licenses in a very short to short term.
Aaaaand that's it! *_*
