SGA S4 Ep9 Millers Crossing
Some of my thoughts on this episode with spoilers, so don't read if you've not watched it yet.
8/10, loosing points for how they treat Rodney's character.
I liked the episode in an overall sense but from a Rodney fan point of view I was really annoyed.
First Rodney's not smart enough and has to call his sister.
His sister gets kidnapped and her husband blames Rodney.
Rodney goes with Agent Barrett but then he cringes away when attacked, I just dont see him doing this after 4 years on an away team and in extreme situations.
His sister blames him and at some point calls him an idiot.
Henry Wallace even said Rodney didnt have as good an understanding of the nanites as his sister did. What! his sister has a family to take care of so cant spend the same amount of time on the problem as Rodney can yet she's better?!
I like the Jeannie character and love that its David's actual sister but must they keep dumbing down Rodney so his sister looks better?
So Rodney can remember all the gate addresses they've been too but not a map of building! What!
Rodney gets zapped (I couldn't see if his sister was too, so I'm assuming she didn't) and she doesn't ask how he is when he wakes up?
Jennie blames him yet again, along with belittling him with the homework line.
She says he needs to marry Katie because no one else would want him! Calls him ugly, OK she didn't say the word but it seemed she was leaning that way and she supposed to be his sister, yes?
Then of course Rodney still isn't smart enough and has to call in the wraith.
They then turn it around towards the end and have Rodney offer his life for his sister. That's the Rodney that I love.
A bit about John here, it was quite a dark thing for his character to do basically convince a man to give up his life for Jennie and Rodney (as Rodney wanted to give up his instead.) but every once in a while they do that with his character, like in The Storm, when he killed all those Genii. I think it makes him a character you can't quite figure out instead of cookie cutter ones, I like that about him.
Is it just me or has anyone else noticed that Rodney never insults his sister but his sister seems to be always doing it? (of course I have a lousy memory so maybe I don't recall him anything like that.)
On a slash note, John looked like Rodney had slapped him when he said he wanted the wraith to feed on him and when he stood up it brought him closer to Rodney, mmmmm... interesting...... then at the end of the episode Rodney didn't knock or ring a bell/chime before walking into Johns room.... even a friend should knock but someone closer?????
Ideas for Rodney whump stories (for people who can write fiction unlike me), he's so caught up in rescuing and then saving Jennie from the nanites that he forgets his hypoglycaemia.. What ever he was zapped with is maybe an experimental gun and an adverse reaction builds up in his system.
Any way like I said at the beginning it was a good episode overall but I wish they would stop with the lets make Rodney stupid theme.
PS, I have definitely seen better trousers, didn't flatter him at all, they distracted me from ogling his bum!
