Janora: So, a few weeks ago, I went to LA to visit my high school friend, Jeanne-chan and my college BFF, RR. What, who am I kidding? I went to see my BOYFRIEND CAPTAIN JAMES MOTHERF’ING KIRK, otherwise known as CPINE, or PRINCESS WHITELAW. LOLOLOL. YES.
Anyway, let’s start at the beginning of adventure time. I flew in to LAX super late Friday night and had contacted Jeanne before to let her know what when I arrived, she was to take me directly to a late night ramen joint. She arrived with 3 attractive dudes who only had eyes for each other, wtf! One was even a tall ginger. Too bad they all ended up being super nerdy engineers! Jeanne had told me I better be dressed to impress so we could go to a club after ramen. Do you know how uncomfortable it is to be dressed slutty at the airport?!?!? I think my outfit was too cute because the old dude in the seat next to me talked to me the entire flight when I had planned to listen to a, audio fanfic and fall asleep for a few precious hours, boo.
Back to ramen which was in Little Tokyo, obv, and we didn’t get served until 1am. Yes, we were a slightly large party at all of 5 people but dang. They ended having to kick out a large group of people and this cute girl in crutches actually screamed NO! when the waiter asked them if they could finish up. Who screams like a petulant brat in public like that? If I could blush, I would have been embarrassed! Ramen was consumed but gotta say, the broth was not as good as oshima, pretty plain, and the shoyu egg wasn’t as good either (
meaisín caoin, pink went to this ramen place a few months before me and said the same thing, weird!). Suffice to say, we didn’t get back to Jeanne’s house until 3:30 so I didn’t get to bed until 4am, blargh.
Saturday morning we went to a birthday party at this exotic sausage restaurant, which isn’t nearly as thrilling as it sounds. Once again, Jeanne’s friends are dominated by a ton of nerdy engineers, but we had a great time. I was glad to hang out with the birthday girl and her bf who had recently gone to comic con so we geeked out about that for a bit. We were, once again, very close to Little Tokyo so we made our way over there for some more eating and shopping. I ate my favorite imagawayaki, like 5 of them all by myself. Hey, it’s my vacay, don’t judge! I ended up being too full to eat anything else though so we rushed over to Santee Alley so we could find something cute to wear for the play that night.
As you get further into the alley, the asses of the mannequins get larger and the clothes are progressively tinier. I saw a ton of cute stuff but I was on a mission for a new bag and a pair of shiny nude heels. Bag was found but unfortunately for me, suede heels are in so I ended up buying another pair of black heels! These are unique in style though, so I was ok with that.
Went back to Jeanne’s, got ready for the show, drove back to Downtown LA to the Mark Taper Forum which is very close to the Disney Concert Hall. Got there early, had a glass of wine at a ridic expensive restaurant.
THE PLAY
We had second row seats to the side and Jeanne freaked over how close we were to the stage. I have been to a few plays in my time so I knew we would be ridic close but still, it was exciting. Play starts and I was shocked at how genuinely good it was. I wish I had thought to invite a few more people because despite my fangirling of the star, it was hilarious, definitely a dark comedy. Chris Pine’s first scene is him torturing a dude hanging from the ceiling of the stage. UNF. The last scene of show involves him getting shot in the head and the stage is covered in blood and dismembered body parts. Sorry to spoil but the run is over and i highly doubt anyone will be seeing it, haha. Kind of funny because I knew Jeanne was squeamish about blood and guns. I knew there would be a lot of knife wielding but didn't know there would be a loud ass gun fight at the OK Corral, oops. Right before the show, I kindly let her know she'd prob be closing her eyes a lot. HAHA, I am an awesome friend.
Chris Pine is tall. He is gorgeous. He was hilarious. His eyes are breathtaking and twinkled in the stage lights. His irish accent made him sound like Capt Jack Sparrow (he has an impeccable Scottish accent though, too bad he couldn't use that instead). My heart stopped, my chair was ruined.
I’ve read a lot about how people are surprised his career hasn’t picked up as much as they expected after how wildly successful Star Trek was but he’s always done a lot of theater so I am not surprised at all he’s taking time between film projects to pursue stage acting. Has anyone seen the preview for his new movie though? Looks TERRIBAD. Of course I will still go.
Afterwards, went to dinner at a random Chinese place and then went to a gorgeous club where I drank Crown and Cokes because apparently they are drinks for grown-ups.
Woke up a teeny bit hungover Sunday morning and told Jeanne I needed dim sum to cure my ills. She called 20 of her BFFs and we ate a shit ton of food. Jeanne had to take her roommate to pick up his car after he left it some dude’s house and strangely enough, that dude lived a block away from RR so Jeanne was able to take me to her place. RR and I went shopping for a few hours and I bought a few things. Went back to her place for a few cocktails and met a bunch of her bitchy industry friends, lolol. Re-acquainted myself with her bf who we went to college with. When you meet new ppl, often you end up talking about movies/music because it’s a common denominator amongst most people but damn, talking about music and movies to people who *make* music and movies-awkward XD I still had a fab time though, mostly because our food was stupendous. We went
here. Check out the menu if you have a chance, we tried 75% of it and I think there was only 1 item I kind of liked instead of LOVED.
I was going to meet up with Andrew that night because strangely enough, he was in LA rehearsing for his band’s reunion show from last weekend but it didn’t work out. Monday, we went to MOCA and saw the Dennis Hopper retrospective and I can’t say that I knew this guy was so talented before. He was good friends with Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein and many other pop artists. His own art and photography was gorgeous, if derivative of his friends. They even had a short film compilation of many of his great scenes from True Romance, Easy Rider, Apocalypse Now-the latter two films I have never seen and definitely want to!
We were in Little Tokyo again so we went to Yogurtland. Andrew called and said he was on his way there and that he could take me to the airport, yay! So I got to hang out with him and his band for a bit.
Got home around 1-1:30. It was a wonderful weekend.
