Pirates!

Saw Pirates of the Caribbean 2 yesterday. Pretty good movie except my butt was hurting from the horrible seats, and if I had to see any more of Orlando Bloom not doing anything interesting on Davy Jones's ship, I think I would've killed someone, but the action sequences more than made up for it.

Lately, I've been compelled to burn more DVDs. Not for the shows themselves, but I totally dig creating the menus. It's like watching one of your layouts being transferred onto your television screen. I've just been having some issues with the whole darn overscan thing cutting off the subtitles, which gives me extra work to do.

And is it me lately, or has anime pretty much been caught in a rut? Maybe I'm just not looking hard enough, but other than a select few, there hasn't been much that can entertain me. Maybe I'm just becoming a grouchy, jaded, cynical anime fan. Other than following well-established pre-existing infinite!series such as One Piece and Bleach, the newer titles seemed to be stock piled with shoujo. Not that it's anything bad, but I find myself getting confused over what to pick up. Especially since shoujo isn't necessarily my cup of tea. (Though I really don't mind watching it, depends how good it is.) Perhaps I'm being too picky, because I'm sure somewhere deep down inside, I'm waiting for the ultimate genre-transcending anime of awesome. You know, kind of like what Cowboy Bebop was back in the day.

I'm also following xxxHolic and Blood+. At first Blood+ was all over the map in terms of pacing. Sometimes I finish an episode and think to myself "Wow! This may very well be the greatest anime of 2006!", and sometimes I wonder why I even waste my time. The good news is it's been going down the road of pure anime greatness after the one-year gap in the story.

xxxHolic is a bit of a strange one, too. At it's very core, it's a show about nothing. No, seriously. But maybe that's why I like it, because my head's not exploding with excessive plot points.

Other than the mentioned series, (obviously) does anyone have any suggestions? I'm already considering Chevalier and Nana. I'm also up for any genre at the moment.
