(no subject)

I was considering adding a “because” to the beginning or the end of the cut subject, but I couldn’t decide which, so I ended up going with neither. I’m going to go ahead and try to go over what’s happened for the past little bit, in case anyone’s wondering.

Finals were a pain. Finishing homework was a bigger pain. I ended up with A’s in my 100 and 500 level classes, and B’s in the 300 and 400 level ones, which seems silly, but as long as it’s enough to get me back into Honors I’m not going to complain. I would have liked for my regular physics classes to turn out better, but I’m pretty super-pumped that Quantum Optics turned out as well as it did, so stuff should be cool.

I’m hoping that and other classes will make me more attractive to grad schools, because my test scores are going to be a problem. I confused myself as to the date of my Physics in November and didn’t take it, at which point it was too late to register for the December one, leaving me without the possibility of taking the test before April. This will be a problem for grad school admissions. I hope I can get past it.

In less stressful news, I went to a de-stress fest during finals weeks and learned to knit. I’m working on a scarf for my mother. It’s a good time, and it give me something to do with my hands.

After finals I went to Derek’s for a few days, then stopped in at my mom’s for a bit before my sister got here to take my brother and I and her down to my dad’s place. We learned the basic of bridge and mahjong, went to see The Polar Express in 3D Imax and Munich in 2D regular, and hung out. One day he had some friends come over and we all read some Shakespeare to work on elocution, and then we ended up going to Jungle Jim’s to get candy from various parts of the world to try out. It was a really great time. We should get together more often.

I also got some Ker-azy deals while I was down there. We found a game store having 30% off all inventory and got some pirates, and I got a copy of Hello Nasty for $3 and Sixteen Stone for $2. I also picked up the dual-disc version of Hypnotize in Muncie so I can investigate the properties of dual-discs and see whether they’re as dual as I’d like.

Christmas Eve was spent, as usual at my Aunt Roseanne and Uncle Kevin’s house with my mom’s side of the family. I got the usual parade of gift cards as well as some hex wrenches and a cube that turns into a snake and then, if you’re lucky, back into a cube.

Today, as some of you have already realized, is Christmas. We opened present with my mother and father and sister and brother and sister’s boyfriend, for the first time in my mom’s new house, and I had more than anyone else. Clearly I am the King of Christmas. I got some good stuff. I got dishes and silverware and utensils and tablecloths, so I’ll have to have some dinner parties or something when I get back. My dad got me some good t-shirts that I’ll be wearing when I get back, and probably before, and I got some Purdue shirts and Hawaiian shirts as well that are very groovy. My dad also got me a Monty Python trivia calendar, and the sample pages shown on the back were pretty difficult stuff, so it could be a good time. My mom got me and Zeke and Travis nerf guns with glow in the dark darts that light up when then fire, and she got a bunch of little foam disc launchers, so we had a good battle with those. My dad got Travis magnetic gloves that he kept sticking everything to, to greatly amusing effect. He peaked when he went into the kitchen and returned with three knives on the back of each hand, and then proceeded to drop most of them in attempts to snikt. The rest of us have decided that even if Lea and Travis break up at some point we still want to invite him to Christmas.

I got a bunch more things that I’ll have to make a better inventory of when I’m less tired, including one that I’m going to mention OUTSIDE THE CUT…

New Year’s-Eve-Tastrophe:

I got a karaoke machine from my Mom for Christmas, and I need to break it in. Also, I never got around to having the Firefly party before Serenity came out, so I’m thinking Firefly and karaoke New Year’s Eve. Anyone who wants to come should totally get a hold of me. I don’t know if it will be a lot of people, but it should be a good time, and I can give people rides if they’re not too far away. My mom’s got plenty of places to crash in the basement, so just get a hold of me if you’re interested. Otherwise, have a good time everybody, I hope you’re doing well, and I’ll talk to you later.
