The
HSUS *is* coordinating first-responder type rescue, or so the (very
nice, patient) woman I spoke to believes; they're heading to New
Orleans now. She put me through to voicemail for Mike who's
coordinating disaster response. She said they're getting slammed with
hundreds of voicemails. She said it's OK if people with trapped animals
call her and get put through to Mike's voicemail too, or if they're
very lucky, they might get to talk to someone. I'd suggest any cat
owner try this number along with any others anyone can come up with. If
I get a more direct number for the HSUS's New Orleans effort, I'll post
it, but this is what there is so far.
ETA: Info from a commenter
below: The HSUS Dallas office number is 972-488-2964. She confirmed
that their office is deploying tomorrow and they will be doing rescues
but had no other info. SEE BELOW
ETA again: The people in Dallas said to try this number for the State of LA Community Affairs: 225-925-7600
