Think it's been a week since I updated, maybe a bit less. Day after Slayer I went out to the Cambridge Oktoberfest beer festival for an evening's exception from the no drinking rule. Some damn nice beers they had too from both the English and the German brewers. Also saw Quantum of Solace that weekend, which I thought was a decent enough action film but a bit too clean-cut plotwise and altogether a bit naff as a Bond film.
Monday night I had an epic Team Fortress marathon with Crazy Tony, which was fun as I haven't played in a while and I need it after a solid afternoon's supervision work. Tuesday night I went out to the Calling on Andy S's invitation. Music was crap as usual (save for the odd bit of Rammstein), but good company. :) Went to the Bonfire Night fireworks the day after. They were decent, but not as good as last year I thought. Didn't help the smoke was blowing directly towards me, obscuring some of the further away blasts (although at one point it did cause a very pretty effect where there was a cloud of smoke flashing various colours). Also wandered round the funfare a bit with
thedinster, Christine, Iain H and Jon C. Standard funfare, er, fare really, although the rides were too rich for my blood (4 quid a ride for christ's sake!) and I didn't fancy wasting money on the games. Still, good to get out of an evening.
Added lunges back into my routine at the gym today. Bloody hell they're harder than I remember, managed 3x8 at bodyweight + 20kgs in the end. How on Earth did I used to 3x12 at bodyweight + 25kgs? Still, gotta even out those quads if I want to get squatting again.
Tonight I went out to the Man on the Moon for the Annotations of an Autopsy gig. Originally there were supposed to be six bands, but one pulled out and I missed the first one because I turned up late (supervision + research in the CL library + gym + shower + dinner + other crap = not so much time). Got there halfway through the first band, who played some fairly generic metalcore. Some decent riffs in the heavier parts, but too many wangsty sung choruses and other such trappings of the genre. Third band were wank, but they only played 15 minutes.
Ingested, the penultimate band, were very good. Band of the night for me. Hadn't heard any of their stuff before, but they serve up a decent slab of the brutal slammin' gore. Crowd didn't get into it that much save me,
metalfeast666, a few metalheads and the odd scene kid flailing erratically, but that was good in away 'cause it left plenty of room for some huge headbanging.
The headliners, Annotations of an Autopsy, also put on a damn good show. Their stuff's a bit repetitive and very mid-tempo, but they're good at the old deathcore thing and their sound was decent. Crowd got a lot more into it - I don't think I've ever seent the ol' Moon so rammed.
All in all, a good night.
