21st Birthday Weekend

Well, I had a great birthday weekend and enjoyed my step-sister's wedding immensely. It was in a little town called Brenham, Texas that is about 2 hours west of Houston. Christie married an Irishman named Michael Seaver, he's a wonderful guy. He's a professional musician, music critic, and a chef. So, automatically I think he's a badass. They live in Dublin but had the wedding here because it is less costly. Now, let me speak shortly about my trip because it was quite the adventure and a beautiful wedding.

First, it took me 40 minutes to get out of San Marcos because I took the wrong road and traveled 20 miles in the wrong direction. Once I figured out that I was heading south instead of east I turned around and got back into town and onto the correct road. Everything was going fine until, I got into a little town called Bastrop where, I turned onto the wrong road and travel about 50 miles south east. I eventually came to a point and told myself I had no idea where I was. I wanted to call my mother to get some sort of directions but, my cell phone broke the night before and was of no use to me. I don’t know what happened or the cause, it just stopped working. So, that aside, I stop at a convenient store, buy a map, ask what town I am in, and figure out a way to get to where I need to be. It turned out I was directly 20 miles south of where I needed to be. So, I let out a huge sigh of relief and hit the road again. Finally, I make it to the rehearsal dinner.

Now, it's my 21st birthday and I've been driving for the majority of it, I wanted a beer and I drank a lot it. Let's just say I had a blast at the dinner. I was hitting on all the waitresses, I actually danced, and I kept table hopping so I could talk to all the Irish people who flew into from Dublin. I must say, they are the nicest people I have ever met. We got along so well and just drank and laughed and talk about everything. After the dinner I wanted to party so I rendezvous with my step cousins and we hit up the town. Only bad part is that the town is tiny. I can't find shit. So, I hit up a sonic, order a drink, and when the waitress comes out I asked her what there was to do. Well, she tells me "nothing" and I say there has got to be at least one bar and there is and it's called the Tavern. We hit that up and when the waitress comes up to us I slam my hand on the table and say I'm 21 fuck me up. She says that the bar closes @12 so we only have about 10 minutes. So, she makes me this nasty ass shot that has about 5 different liquors and takes me 3 gulps to get down. Then she drags me onto the dance floor, sits me in a chair, and has all the girls in the bar come up and give me a lap dance. At first I bet your thinking wow that's awesome, but no, these were some snaggle ass bitches and they are just grinding on me. I was trying so hard not to laugh and my cousins are across the room just rolling in their seats. After that we head our separate ways and go home. Next is the wedding ceremony.

Alright, my truck has been having trouble starting lately; sometimes it just won’t start at all after I've driven it a while and I have to wait a few minutes until it'll start back up again. (A bit of back info there) My mother assumed it was going to be piping hot during the wedding so she loaded a giant ice chest full of water bottles and had me load that into the bed of my truck. The shit was heavy as hell, my mother and I barely got it in. Well, we head off and the damn thing is sliding all over the place because it in fact was not hot but raining instead. I go to pull out into the highway and the ice chest slides all the way through the net in my truck and out onto the highway. I pull over and pull the chest to the side of the road; fortunately it didn’t break or spill open. My mother is in a dress and heels so I'm not going to make her get out in the rain and help me load it back into the truck. We call Bruce, my step dad, to come bail us out. He shows up with his truck and drains the water out of the chest to make it lighter, which is brilliant. And so we progress towards the church. I notice on the way that I'm low on gas and decide to fill up and when I try to start my car back up, it wont. My mother and I have to sit in the parking lot for about 4 minutes waiting for the damn thing to start. But not to worry we made it to the church and the wedding was beautiful.

The wedding was held in a historic church, that isn’t used anymore except for tours. The music during the wedding was wonderful. Michael’s sister, Deidre plays the harp and sings and he had her play during the ceremony and when the bride walked the isle. Michael actually wrote the song for her walk. It was brilliant, the music was all Irish like, I loved it and I fell in love with Deidre after hearing her voice. I still want to marry a girl who can sing. Also, there were two other girls who sung, one was an opera singer and the other a choir singer, both were superb. I wanted to burst into cheers but that's not how weddings work. Along with that there was a 4 person orchestra that played during the other moments. At one moment Michael's brother who was the best man stood up and read some poetry, which was awesome because of his heavy Irish accent. I don’t know what he said because I was too busy thinking, wow he sounds so cool. And then we proceeded to the reception. MORE ADVENTURE!!!

The reception was held at this giant mansion in town which for some reason I just could not find. After driving around for about 20 minutes I stopped at an Exxon and got directions. When I was positive of where I needed to go I got into my car, turned the key, and no sir my car said, it would not start. So I had to walk to the reception in a suit and tie while it was drizzling. I couldn’t call anyone because my cell phone is busted. It wasn’t a bad walk though, only about a mile and it gave me time to cool off. So yeah, awesome food, great speeches and we had the South Austin Jug band play. They were great and everyone ran out onto the dance floor and started hoping around to the bluegrass. Nothing but smiles and laughter, all and all I had a great time and made it home safe. My truck started but I need to take it to a shop and I'll be getting a new phone soon. Thanks for reading this; it's just much easier this way, so I don’t have to repeat it to everyone. Thanks
