Some students from Wellesley college ( I think it's in Boston) were arrested the other day for taking colored chalk and Drawing peace signs and writing quotes from Ghandi in the town square.
They were part of the College Peace Coalition and went out in the morning and came back by 12pm. While they were there, someone took down their license plates, and called the police. The Police got ahold of one the student's cellphone numbers, and told them to come back to the square. They were given the choice of, cleaning it up or going to jail. The students said that they would clean it up, but asked Why? they wnated to know why they were being arrested for drawing with chalk. And the policeman said, "It's not up for discussion", and they pressed the issue and he said "you lost your chance" and took them to jail. They were released for $40 bail the next day and now have to be on; probation, do 12hrs of community service, and pay $63 in fines. HERE's the news article if you want to read it.
http://www.boston.com/news/local/massachusetts/articles/2006/04/30/at_wellesley_arrest_over_chalk_writing_leaves_a_mark/ I can't stand how dick police officers are. They will arrest you for anything. and they are not even pleasant when you ask them questions. That's why, When I'm lost I never ask a police officer where a building is. Because I'm afraid, I'm afraid of what he'll do to me. I bet he knows the answer too, just driving around all the time looking for people to bust. They stop me when I'm out walking around. I'm afraid to walk down the street, without having a cop pull over and ask where I'm going.
Arresting people for drawing with chalk is ridiculous. I would think that that would be a positive thing that they did and that they should be praised. The news could have done a story on how there was peace tonight in the town square but no, they spend the night in a cage. How awful.
