Comic Reviews

Jan 15, 2008 00:08

Between holidays, illness, business picking up in the ebay store and everything else, I haven't done a review in a while. I'm going to do a quick set right now to get it somewhat caught up. No scans today, I am afraid. I scan so much for my store that I don't feel like scanning the books I review right now.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season Eight #10
Angel: After the Fall (Season Six) #2
Superman Confidential #10
Action Comics #860
Superman #671
Superman #672
Justice Society of America #11
Green Lantern #26
Green Lantern Corps #20
Tales of the Sinestro Corps: Ion #1
Teen Titans: The Lost Annual #1
Gargoyles #7
Silver Surfer: In Thy Name

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season Eight #10 - A lot of foreshadowing this issue and some cool stuff with Dawn, but so far this story arc pales in comparison to the last story. (3/5 stars)

Angel: After the Fall (Season Six) #2 - This issue we find out what happened to some more of the cast members after the finale for season five....and it has some very cool revelations. Oh yeah....and some cool Spike stuff. (4/5 stars)

Superman Confidential #10 - Better than last issue, but not as good as the first issue of this story arc. Art is still really neat. Story has a couple cool moments and Abnett writes the Forever People really well. (4/5 stars)

Action Comics #860 - Good stuff that should be making original Legion fans very happy. I like seeing Superman still fighting alongside the Legion even when he is without his superpowers. (3.75/5)

Superman #671 - *yawn* Only interesting part of this story is the subplot with Christopher. (2/5)

Superman #672 - Main story got a little more interesting this issue, but not by much. Christopher subplot is still much more interesting. I would rather read a whole issue of seeing how Lois is trying to help Christopher than the main story here. The people on the space station only recognize Lana Lang-Ross as "Senator Ross's wife"? What the heck? How long have they been out of communication with Earth? They missed the whole Lex Luthor becoming president storyline and Ross becoming Vice President as well as Lang taking over Luthorcorp? (2.5/5)

Justice Society of America #11 - Nice story, but DC has way too many Kryptonians running around. It seems like the idea is "Our writers can't come up with new original characters who can mantain series, so we'll keep replicating the ones that do." (3/5)

Green Lantern #26- Now that the big splashy crossover is done, Johns returns to writing what he writes well: character-driven team stories. There's a lot of great moments in this issue: Hal visiting Sinestro in prison; John still angsting over his failure way back in the cosmic odyssey storyline, the group of vengeful Lanterns attacking Amon Sur, and Tomar Tu and Graf sneaking a peek at the Book of Oa. (4.5/5)

Green Lantern Corps #20- I hope a lot of people who jumped on for the Sinestro Corps Wars is sticking with the GL titles, because the true pay-off has been the aftermath. My only complaint here is the same one I already made: Making Mongul a ring-bearer is unneeded. He is a great villain without a yellow ring and not all GL villains need their own colored rings. However, the cool scene with Mongul talking to the corpse of Mongal and all the great scenes of Kyle and Guy make this issue another great read. If I liked Gleason's art better, this issue would have had a better score.... (4/5)

Tales of the Sinestro Corps: Ion #1 - More good aftermath stuff. More Ron Marz getting to write Kyle and give him a role in the group of Earth-Lanterns. (4/5)

Teen Titans: The Lost Annual #1 - Wacky Silver Age fun! Aliens kidnap JFK! Only the Teen Titans can help! (3.75/5)

Gargoyles #7 - Non-linear storytelling at its worst! Very disappointing. (2/5)

Silver Surfer: In Thy Name #3- This story is scoring a solid "OK" so far. This cover is one of the worst comic covers not drawn by Liefeld, I have seen in a long time. It actually makes Michael Turner covers look good.
(2.75/5)
