Action Comics #857
Action Comics #859
Superman Confidential #9
The Mighty Avengers #1
Spidey Super Stories #56

Angel: After the Fall #1 (IDW Comics)- I have been skipping on the Angel and Spike comics from IDW because of the 3.99 price tag. The few IDW comics I had bought in the past has not provided enough entertainment for such a high price tag. However, Joss Whedon was reading them and was apparently so impressed by on particular author, Brian Lynch, that he offered to work with him to make an official continuation of the Angel series: "Angel Season Six." Well, it is here: the canon continuation of the Angel series. The book picks up a while after the events of the final episode. L.A. has literally gone to hell. Angel continues fighting the good fight as demon lords set themselves up as rulers of different neigborhoods. The book has a lot of really cool moments and ideas, especially the giant telepathic fish (!) and the fate of Wesley. (Who would have thought Wesley would be in the comic?) The art is OK. I've seen better art, but I've also seen a lot worse. I'll stick around for some issues and see how it goes, even at 3.99 a pop. (Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars)

Action Comics #857 (DC Comics)- I missed this issue when it came out and recently found it at a different comic shop than my usual haunt. This is the final part of Geoff Johns and Richard Donner's "Escape From Bizarro World." There was some real fun moments in this book. I'm not a big fan of bringing back a silver age-style Bizarro World, but this book does tell a good story with the Bizarros and the art by Eric Powell fits it really well. (3.5/5 stars)

Action Comics #859 (DC Comics)- Part Two of Superman and the Legion of Superheroes is a lot better than the first, I think. The story is picking up and the future Justice League looks like they could be a really neat threat against the Legion. I like that this book is giving a chance for Superman to be a hero and brave without his superpowers. I have always liked these stories that show that Superman is Super because of who he is...not the powers. Powerless in the future and hunted with the Legion, Superman finds the idea of retreating to the past and letting the Legion handle it without him unthinkable. (4/5 stars)

Superman Confidential #9 (DC)- This book continues where the last issue left off, telling the "New Earth" version of when Superman first encountered Kirby's Fourth World. The art is fantastic and the storytelling is rock-solid. My only complaint is how it writes Orion, as the hot-headed jerk that too many writers write him as. It doesn't fit how Kirby wrote him. (4/5 stars)

The Mighty Avengers #1 (Marvel)- Art is pretty. Dialogue is painful. I had seen folks on Scans Daily spoofing Bendis dialogue, but since I am not a Marvel fan, I was not as familiar with his writing. This book screams to be parodied as it reads just like a lot of the people who make fun of Bendis with choppy short sentences all over the place. Other than dialogue, the story was OK. Tony and Ms. Marvel spend most of the book discussing who will be in the new Avengers team...much like the early issues of the current JLA book. At least Bendis finished that discussion in one issue. If anyone is looking for this issue, I have placed it up for sale in my eBay store, Krypton Comics. (2/5 stars)

Spidey Super Stories #56 (Marvel, 1982)- These books are really good for a laugh. Marvel published these easy-to-read comics to tie-in with the Spidey shorts in the TV show, The Electric Company. The stories in this issue are pretty laughable, but they are supposed to be. This book guest-stars Captain Britain and Iron Man, but the best story is just Spidey dealing with Green Goblin, stopping him from stealing Halloween Candy! This book is now also for sale at Krypton Comics. (2.5/5 stars)
