It’s now during the weekend and Yamada was away with his father at the men’s shop to shop for a suit.
“Yuri” Chinen’s mother poked her head into his bedroom, “there you are” she walked in and closed the door behind him. Her son was sitting on his bed reading a chaptered book he recently just bought at the bookstore. Chinen looked up from his book and smiled, he folded the corner of the page and closed it. “What do you mean ‘there you are’, were you looking for me?” he asked and she nodded, taking a seat on the bed beside him. “What are you reading?” she asked while picking up the book from his hands, “your father used to love to read these kind of books” she said and gave it back to him. Chinen only nodded slightly and accepted the book back from her, “did you need something mom?” he asked.
“Actually, I came here to ask if you would like to accompany your mother to the bridal store”
“Bridal store?” his mother nods, “I’ve reserved some wedding dresses under my mine, and today is the day that I must go try them on”
“Oh…”
“What’s the matter Yuri? You don’t want to go with me?” Chinen shook his head and placed his book on the lamp table beside him. “I’ll accompany you mom” he said with a smile, she smiled back and ruffled his hair. “That’s my boy, now get dressed I’ll be back to get you okay?” Chinen nodded, she got up but then stopped, “Yuri”
“Nani?” he looked up at her, “what’s that at your neck?” she asked and reached out to pull down his collar, Chinen quickly grabbed his collar and shook his head. “Nothing…” he said, “what is it Yuri? Let me take a look” Chinen shook his head once more, “it’s nothing mom…really” she leaned back and crossed her arms, “you know that whatever you’re hiding won’t get away from me” she said sternly, Chinen sighed. “It…it’s just a mark that’s all”
“Mark?” he nods, “oh…is it from someone special?” he nods again and she smiled hugely, “so you’ve fallen for someone, who’s the special girl?”
“Er…I…she…” he sighed, “I don’t feel like telling you right now, can I tell you whenever the perfect timing comes?” she nods, “of course dear, now hurry and get dressed okay?” he nodded and she left the room. After hearing the door shut closed he sighed and removed his hands from his collar. He walked up to the mirror and looked at the hickey, “that damn Ryosuke” he cursed.
At the bridal store, his mother had walked behind the curtain with the store lady. He took a seat and grabbed a magazine close by him. He sighed and rubbed his head, “what am I doing?” he asked himself. His phone vibrated, he took it out from his pant’s pocket and read the message.
‘Hey where are you? Dad and I came home and you guys are gone.’
-Ryo chan<3
Chinen smiled and replied back and then shut his phone. The curtain was pushed to the side and his mother came out. “How about this one Yuri?” she asked while looking at herself in the mirror, examining all the designs on the dress. “Hm…too poofy mom, you don’t match poofy dresses” he said while touching his chin. She turned to look at him and pouted, “you think so?” he nods, “fine fine, can I get one that isn’t so poofy?” she asked the lady, “hai” the lady took off leaving the two in the room. Chinen flipped his phone open again and replied back to Yamada.
“Who are you texting? Is it the special girl?” his mother asked while looking at him through the mirror, he shook his head and shut his phone, then looked up at his mother’s reflection. “Ryo chan texted me asking where we went. I was telling him where we went” he told her, she nodded. “Seems like you and Ryo chan are getting together well” Chinen nods, “ma you can say that” he said and giggled.
“By the way Yuri”
“Yeah?
“Are you busy next Saturday?”
“I…I don’t think so…why what’s up?”
“Your father wants to take you and Ryo chan to meet the girl that is going to get engage with Ryo chan. If you’re not busy, I would like you to attend the meeting with us” she told him, Chinen’s heart dropped. “Hm…let me see how my schedule comes out like” he told her, just then the lady came back with another dress. She pulled the curtain closed, he sat there rubbing his chin, “this relationship will never work…”
After a full day of shopping, Chinen and his mother came back home. He walked up to his room and shut the door behind him, he goes up to his curtain and pulled it closed, leaving barely and sunlight from the outside to shine in. He took a seat on the small sofa beside the window and stared off into space. Ryosuke came back inside the house after taking a swim in the pool, he only had a towel covering the bottom half of him and a towel around his neck drying his hair. He walked in and saw his step mother fixing some flowers.
“Where’s Yuri?” he asked while drying his hair, she looked up and smiled, “I think he went up to his room” she told him. Yamada took off to Yuri’s room and grabbed the door knob and turned it but it was locked. He sighs and knocks on the door, “Yuri! Yuri are you in there?” no response, he then goes into his room, shut and lock his door and tries the door that led into Chinen’s room from his room, but it was also locked. “Yuri!” Yamada banged onto it, “YURI!” still no response from the younger man.
From the other side Chinen was still sitting on the small sofa thinking about everything that was currently happening. He looked at the picture beside his bed; he walked up to it and grabbed it, staring at the picture forever. “Your happiness should be before mine…but why am I thinking about mine only?” he asked while touching the picture. The picture was a picture of him and his mother at the beach during last year summer. “I’ve become self-fished neh?” he said, a single tear falling down.
His phone vibrated on the lamp table, he grabbed it and checked the message. It was from Yamada, he closed his eyes and allowed his tears to fall, and “sometimes…I wished I never knew you…to fall in love with you” he said to himself. He threw his phone on the bed and quickly left his room; he walked down stairs and slipped on his shoes.
“Where are you going Yuri?” his mother asked as she walked through the kitchen towards the living room, “I’m going out, I need to get some fresh air” he said, “Ryo chan was looking for you” she told him, Chinen got up from his sitting position and pulled his hoodie up, “I know” he said and left the house. His mother watched as the door closed behind her son, without thinking much she entered the living room and went back to her flowers. Yamada pulled his tshirt over his head and checked his phone to see if Chinen texted him back but no luck. He stuff his phone into his pant’s pocket and left his room, he decided once again to try Chinen’s door, this time the door opened but there was no Chinen in the room. Instead, Yamada saw Chinen’s phone on his bed, opened and his message was shown on the screen. He left the room and went down stairs to find his step mother. “Did Yuri go somewhere?” he asked her as he made his way into the living room, she looked up, “oh yeah Yuri did, he said that he was going out to get some fresh air” Yamada quickly left to put on his shoes and left the house.
Chinen made his way to the park and sat down under a sakura tree watching the scenery before him. He shut his eyes and allowed the spring wind pass through his hair and by him. Slowly by slowly, sleep over took him as he listened to the far away distance of children’s voices and birds chirping from above.
Yamada ran down the busy streets of Tokyo looking for the smaller boy, after almost giving up he decided to stop by the park. “Neh neh, did you see?” one little girl started, “I saw a pretty nee chan sleeping under a sakura tree” she told the other girl. “Nee chan? It was a boy” one of the boy that was with them said, “no it wasn’t it was a girl” the girl said back. “Who cares, did you see though? While he or she slept, tears came down his or her face, pretty tears” one of the girls said. Yamada stopped, “neh, say, where did you see the beautiful nee chan?” he asked, the little girl looked up and pointed at a sakura tree not far from there. “Over there, I’m not sure if nee chan is still sleeping there but we saw nee chan over there” yamada thanked the little girl and left.
As Yamada got closer he saw Chinen lying under the sakura tree with his hands under his head as a pillow sleeping. Yamada smiled and walked up to the sleeping body and sat down beside him. He looked around and then picked up leaf near by, he then used it to tickle Chinen’s nose. Chinen first twitched his nose, Yamada giggled and pulled away and then tickled again. This time, Chinen’s hand went up to brush the tickleness away. Yamada giggled again and used the leaf to caress his cheek; Chinen moved his head to the side, snuggling closer to the other side. Yamada leaned down and placed a kiss on his cheek that he was showing. Chinen woke up and sprang into a sitting position. He looked around and saw Yamada, “you!” Chinen pushed Yamada which caused him to laugh. “What’s the matter Chii?” Yamada asked while laughing, “Don’t kiss me like that in public, don’t see that there’s many kids around us?” he said, Yamada only laughed. “Doesn’t matter because they think that you’re a girl” Chinen pouted and smacked Yamada on the arm, “by the way, they said that you were crying” he slowly caressed Chinen’s cheek, “why were you crying?” he asked worriedly. Chinen shook his head, “nothing” he lied and looked down. Yamada grabbed him by the chin and forced him to look up, “there’s something bothering you isn’t there?” Chinen was quiet, “there is huh?” he slowly shook his head, “there’s nothing…really” he lied. Yamada sighed, without saying anything else he leaned in closer and kissed Chinen on the lips. Without complaining or pushing Yamada back, Chinen shut his eyes and pulled Yamada towards him to deepen the kiss.
From far away, Chinen’s mother has been out looking for her son, she stopped and saw the shocking scene in front of her. There sat her step son and her son kissing under a sakura tree, she couldn’t believe what she was seeing, or what was happening in front of her eyes. She clenched her fist, without stopping the two she made her way back home.
