Culture, innit

Just got back from seeing a screening of Frankenstein; the National Theatre one with Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller in it. It's very good. I don't think I've ever read the book, but I've seen the ooooooold James Whale movie and this is very different. Reminded me of the Hunchback of Notre Dame (which I have read!) a little.

The "thing" about this production is that the two leads alternate the role of Frankenstein and the Creature. I had Cumberbatch as Frankenstein and Miller as the Creature. I'd really love to see it the other way around, though I think I'm biased into thinking that it's better this way. Sherlock Holmes has a lot to answer for in making me automatically see BC as a calculating science-type. Fingers crossed the National Theatre release it on DVD or something in both configurations so I can compare.

Would also have loved to see it live, but it sold out retardedly quickly. The set design was pretty interesting, and it's been a long time since I went to see some "proper" theatre (I have nothing against musicals; I love the damn things, but it's nice to go and watch something that's revered as a classic)

All in all, pretty fun. Would have been better with someone with me, but c'est la vie. My training for being a Crazy Cat Lady by the age of 30 continues!
