No, a boat is smaller. Like a sailboat or a dingy. A ship is big, like this thing or a carrier.

[Sorry, what? Gertie laughs.]

*Oh, she speaks another language. And her English is kind of choppy. That's okay then.
His tone immediately softens up*

Its not strange, its the proper use of the words.

[Gertie's voice drops off. She's thinking about things, and after a moment-- this sounds almost,..awkward for her to say.]

Well, sometimes some words have meanings that are really similar to each other but they're not the same. Lots of people get them mixed up, but they're not supposed to. Either they don't know better or they don't care.
Like ship and boat and, uh...Well, there are a lot.

[Another hesitant pause. Getting about,..every fourth word-- it made a very large puzzle with small pieces to put together. After awhile she'll just nod to her radio.]
