In the spirit of
mythrilwyrm, I pose a question. This, however, is not for simple reflection, but rather introspection. And, of course, as it was first instituted, it is to find out who actually reads this thing! :^)
Question: what is the one song that, no matter where you hear it or what is going on when you hear it, always brings back a specific memory, and what is that memory? If you have more than one song like that, choose one.
For me, that song is November Rain by Guns N Roses. The memory is of my junior year in high school. Late one night, I was in a friend's room where she was showing me this song she was hooked on for the time being. Her roommate was getting ready for bed, and the room was dark, with a single lamp casting vague shadows on the walls around me. I was staring at a print-out she had made of the lyrics to the song on this beautiful paper with a raincloud covered by a rainbow. She was in the off-again stage of an on-again, off-again relationship with a mutual friend, and she was sharing with me how she listened to that song to feel close to him. As the song wound to a close, I walked over to her window where she was sitting on the sill, and we looked down across the courtyard to his window, where he was sitting. He looked up, saw us standing there, and he went inside and closed the blinds. I looked over at my friend as tears slid down her face. The song always brings back feelings of friendship and hopelessness at the same time.
