I was wearing a T-shirt with Pollock-esque multi-coloured paint-streaks forming the shape of a skull. My painting was of two human figures and a cat in muted colours of purples, blues and greys.
He was a moustached-artist-veteran. His painting was Pollock-like, but with a dark blue background and contrasting red streaks of red, gave off a disturbing aura of violence. He eyed my Tee and painting.
"Are you into the 'mah-kah-ber'?" he asked.
"No." I assumed he meant "macabre".
"What about the 'oh-kut'?"
"Pardon?"
"'Oh-kut.' 'O-C-U-L-T."
"Occult? No, I'm not into that either."
Pause.
"There's a very good show that I watch. Ghost-Whisperer. You should watch it too."
