TITLE: What We're Not (part 2)
GENRE: Fluff
RATING: PG-13
PAIRING: Yunjae
LENGTH: Series
DISCLAIMER: I do not own DBSK, nor do I know them, so this work is complete and utter fiction. And nobody would pay me money for it.
SUMMARY: He wonders why they always seem to end up here lately, with Yunho oblivious and him pining. Especially, when he doesn't even know what he's pining for.
A/N: Based on those rumors about how JaeChun didn't like how Yunho spent so much time with his 85 Club friends...or something like that. It's kind of slow and slightly more serious than part one, but it's buildup for the last two parts of this series.

Part One What What We’re Not, Part Two: Best Friends, But Not Lovers…
“Yunho-ah we’re - oh, are you going somewhere?” Jaejoong comes up short, watches from the doorway as Yunho slips a green polo over his head, slides glasses he doesn’t need onto his face.
Yunho looks over at him, “Huh?”
“Are you going somewhere?” Jaejoong repeats, stepping into the room to smooth Yunho’s shirt down over his shoulders and chest so that it falls strait.
“Out with my friends.”
Jaejoong hides his frown of displeasure by turning to Yunho’s accessory case in search of a watch to go with the leader’s outfit. “Are you going to be out all night?”
“Oh, was there something else I was supposed to do tonight?” Yunho pauses in the middle of his hat selecting, genuinely concerned, because it’s not like he hasn’t forgotten pre-made plans before.
Jaejoong purses his lips together and considers lying, just for a second, in order to keep Yunho home. But he doesn’t. “No, but Yoochunnie’s coming over. Junsu wants to watch some movie about vampires and Minnie wants to eat bulgogi. And since all of us are free with nothing scheduled for tomorrow, I thought we could make a night of it. Just the five of us.”
Yunho squeezes Jaejoong to him in a quick hug of regret. “Sorry, Jaejoongie, already made plans with the guys.” TVXQ’s leader doesn’t miss the look of disappointment spreading across his lead singer’s face. “You don’t want me to go.”
“Did I say that?”
“You don’t have to.” Yunho says, as Jaejoong pushes out of his hold. He can only imagine the reactions from Yoochun, Junsu, and even Changmin, when they find out. “I’ll try to cut it short.” He promises.
Jaejoong doesn’t want to set himself up for that, doesn’t want to be mad at Yunho if it doesn’t happen. He wonders why they always seem to end up here lately, with Yunho oblivious and him pining. Especially, when he doesn’t even know what he’s pining for. He shakes his head and hands Yunho the watch he’d picked out. “No, have fun with your friends. It’s okay, really.”
Jaejoong backs away to assess Yunho’s overall look, but he doesn’t meet Yunho's eyes even once. The taller man knows that it’s not. It’s not okay at all.
“Jaejoong-ah,” Yunho begins. He doesn’t owe the other man any explanations, but there’s an ache in the middle of his chest at the look on Jaejoong’s face that makes him want to give one anyway.
Then his cell phone rings.
They both know who it is. Jaejoong leaves the room a second later and Yunho leaves the apartment two minutes after that, they’re both more unsettled than they should be.
Yoochun’s face falls when he arrives, only to discover that it’s Dong Bang Shin, minus the Ki. Jaejoong feels his pain, because they’re both a little more dependant on the other three than is actually mentally healthy. But Yoochun’s easily distracted the minute he hears Changmin and Junsu bickering from the living room, since Junsu is his favorite anyway.
Dinner is loud and playful like most meals with each other and Jaejoong almost, almost, doesn’t notice the empty space at the head of the table. Not until Junsu does something particularly stupid and Changmin says something particularly mean about it and Yoochun giggles particularly silly because of it. Then he turns with a laugh to his right, but there’s no answering smile to meet him.
The movie is fairly predictable and not enough to stop Jaejoong from doing what he’s been wanting to do all night. He slips his phone out and texts Yunho, asks if the other man has had anything to eat and should he keep some bulgogi warm and waiting.
Waiting.
He wonders why it feels like all he’s ever doing is waiting lately. Especially, when he doesn’t even know what he’s waiting for.
Yoochun gasps and covers his face against the gruesome wonders of special effects. Junsu throws popcorn and opinions at the screen. Changmin mocks both his hyungdeul, but the movie specifically. Jaejoong's glad for the distraction the youngest three provide. He doesn’t actually expect Yunho to text him back.
It’s ridiculous, really, how happy he is when Yunho does.
Just finished eating, now off to…somewhere.
It’s not an apology, since neither of them has done anything wrong, but it mends something in Jaejoong that's been splintering recently for reasons he doesn't fully understand.
Are the kids mad at me?
The second text catches Jaejoong by surprise and makes him smile, which was probably Yunho’s intent. He types back:
They’ll live. Be careful. Have fun.
Oh, he could tell Yunho to come home and see for himself, and he's sure that Yunho would. Jaejoong comprehends exactly the kind of sway he holds in Yunho's life. What he's not so certain of is why Yunho lets him. Because they’re best friends, but not lovers, and Jaejoong knows he has no right.
It doesn’t really matter though, since Yunho barrels through the front door 20 minutes later with cake and ice cream in his hands, eyes crinkled happily over a face-splitting grin.
Junsu claps like it’s his birthday and Changmin is quick in asking, “Hyung, you got chocolate ice cream too, right?”
Yoochun throws himself on Yunho’s back the second the cake and ice cream are safely on the dinning table, and immediately launches into his vampire movie review, complete with spoilers, sound effects, and facial reenactments.
Jaejoong gathers plates and spoons and sets them next to the dessert. “Yunho-ah, I thought you were going…somewhere.”
“I did. Then, I came home.”
“But your friends -”
“They’ll live.” Yunho throws Jaejoong’s words back at him with a grin.
Jaejoong bites back an answering smile. “You didn’t have to -”
Yunho cuts him off again, but this time with a look that says clearly, Are you kidding me?
Yunho grabs the serving spoon and bowls, shoveling out ice cream in extra large heaps, while the younger three dance around him in excited voices and hyper movements, vying for his attention like he’s the missing link…which, technically, is true.
Jaejoong smiles and cuts the cake.
