Don't Look Down

TITLE:  Don't Look Down
GENRE:  Fluff
RATING:  PG-13
PAIRING:  Yoosu
LENGTH:  One-shot
DISCLAIMER:  I do not own DBSK, nor do I know them, so this work is complete and utter fiction.  And nobody would pay me money for it.
SUMMARY:  "Junsu."  Yoochun interrupts with a grin.  "Take my hand.  I promise I won't let you fall."  It's really cheesy and just this side of greasy, but then again, so is Yoochun.

A/N:  Here is the Yoosu that I mentioned earlier.  The flow is weird, the kiss scene is practically non-existent, and I don't think it makes much sense.  But I've edited until I can't edit no more, and this is what I'm left with.  Hopefully, it doesn't suck too much.

Don't Look Down

Yoochun thinks it's kind of like rock climbing, though he's never been.  Mostly because, well, he's afraid of heights.  But he imagines it to be this grand and amazing experience, albeit steep and filled with jagged edges.  It is not something to be taken for granted or to be taken lightly.  It is dangerous.

It is worth it.

He watches Junsu dance and listens to Junsu sing and feels like he's taken a strong hold on the ledge above him.  He doesn't look down, because if he does, he'll see how far from the ground he is.

How far there is to fall.

It might just scare him enough to make him stop.

Make him come back down to earth.

But he doesn't want to stop.  Because it is worth it.

~~~
Junsu talks about Eunhyuk in various interviews without ever being prompted.  It feels like tiny rocks biting into Yoochun's flesh, scraping along the soft surface, leaving scars and bruises in their wake.
It hurts.
Yoochun almost looks down.  Almost.  But then Junsu leans into his side, eu-kyang-kyang soothing like a gentle gust against red and battered skin.  And Yoochun knows he's climbed too high to just give up now.
~~~

It's another photo-shoot and they're playing around too much.  Yoochun knows it.  Junsu knows it.  Everybody knows it.

But only Jaejoong is in the mood to mind.

Jaejoong snaps at Junsu because Junsu is the closest.  Yoochun scrambles over as fast as he can to take his half of the blame.  He can't let Junsu bear it alone.  And it's never pleasant, scoldings from Jaejoong.

It is the worse conditions at all the wrong times.

But Yoochun weathers it.  And when Junsu slips a hand into his, he grips back until the storm passes.  He uses that hold to swing himself up and over.

It is another height gained.

~~~
Yunho is their leader and, most times, very much their appa.  Even more than that, he is Junsu's friend, Junsu's hyung, from years before Yoochun was even a factor in Junsu's life.  So it's only right, Yoochun knows, that Junsu turns to Yunho for help, waits on Yunho for advice, leans on Yunho for support.
But that relationship often feels like a landslide to Yoochun.
One boulder after another beating him down, down.
The force of gravity.  Inescapable, but not impossible to overcome.
So, Yoochun keeps his eyes pointed upward, digs or lifts when and where he can.  He cuts a path just small enough to fit through and finally finds Junsu at the other end.  Junsu, eyes red and watery, and pleading for comfort.
From him.
He scales that last boulder in one leap, takes Junsu in his arms, and he's almost there.
He's almost to the top.
He can see it just over Junsu's shoulder as the other boy burrows deeper into his embrace.
~~~

It's a little bit cruel.

A little bit like making the mountain come to him.

But with the summit just within reach, Yoochun can't afford to do anything less than everything he needs to.  So he keeps his distance, keeps his thoughts, and keeps his unwillingness to be apart from Junsu reigned in tight.

And he moves out.

He moves in with his mom and his little brother.  They are the reason he set his sights so high to begin with.

But they are no longer the destination.

One last ridge, Yoochun tells himself, just one last ridge to get over.

He opens the door and they breeze through like a welcomed wind.  Yunho slaps him on the back, Jaejoong kisses him on the cheek, and Changmin shoves a potted orchid into his hands with a smirk.  Then the three of them are moving away, blowing into another part of his new house, wrapping around his mother and brother in excited voices and distant laughter.  They seem to sweep away the weariness - the sweat, the grime - and all the other things that could make Yoochun doubt his own finish.  Until the only thing left for Yoochun to focus on is Junsu.

"Here."  Junsu says, holding out a small pile of neatly folded t-shirts toward him.

Yoochun recognizes them as his own.  Things Junsu had "borrowed" long ago and never returned.

Just one last ridge to get over.

He sets the orchid at his feet and takes the clothes from Junsu's outstretched hands, pulls out a Manchester United jersey that would never belong to him, and raises a brow.

Junsu blushes, stutters, "H-how did that get in there?"

Yoochun holds it out of reach when Junsu tries to take it back, says smugly, "Mine now."

Junsu glares, but Yoochun knows better.

He sets the clothes next to the orchid and takes Junsu's hand.  "I want to show you something."

He leads Junsu up the stairs, through a room, and out to a balcony.  He climbs over the railing, slowly and carefully.

Junsu gasps.  "Yoochun, what  - you're afraid of - are you crazy?  Come back here!"

Yoochun sets his feet on the small concrete platform below him and holds his hand out.

Junsu's eyes widen in understanding.  He grumbles, "If moving out was going to drive you insane, you should've just stayed put."  He blushes then, realizing what he's just said.  "I mean - no - it's good for you to live with your family.  Of course the five of us can't be together forever.  We'll all move out eventually.  You were just first - "

"Junsu."  Yoochun interrupts with a grin.  "Take my hand.  I promise I won't let you fall."  It's really cheesy and just this side of greasy, but then again, so is Yoochun.

Junsu sighs, but finally takes the offered hand.  He lets Yoochun help him up and over, until he's standing safely at Yoochun's side.

Yoochun takes him in, takes a breath.  Takes his time.

Just one last ridge to get over.

"Chunnie?"  Junsu ventures, after the silence has stretched his nerves past bearing.  "I'm sorry."

Yoochun frowns.  "For what?"

Junsu swallows.  "For whatever it is I did before you moved out.  You know, when you stopped talking to me.  I don't remember what it was exactly, but I'm sorry anyway.  I'm sorry and I miss you.  And you're my best friend, Yoochun."

There it is.  That one...

Yoochun wraps an arm around Junsu's waist.  "I don't want to be your friend, Su."

Junsu tries to pull away.  "But - why?"

...last...

Yoochun tightens his hold.  "I don't," he pulls Junsu to him, "want to be," closer, until Junsu is pressed completely against the length of him, "your," he whispers the last word against Junsu's lips, "friend."

It takes Junsu one...two....three...four seconds before..."Oh."  He blushes, looks down.  "Oh."

Yoochun can't have that.

...ridge...

He traces a thumb down Junsu's cheek.  "Eyes up, Su.  There's nothing to see down there."

Junsu raises his head slowly.

...to get...

"That's right."  Yoochun encourages.  "I'm right here."

...over.

"I love you."

Junsu hesitates and almost looks down again.

And Yoochun knows that sometimes the altitude from this high up can mess with a person's equilibrium.  Tilt the world at crazy, haphazard angles, make your next steps feel unstable, unsafe.  So he cups Junsu's face in a gentle hand, tries to steady the smaller boy with the weight of everything Junsu makes him feel.  "Don't look down, Su, remember?  Keep your eyes up.  What do you see?"

It's a little too slow for Yoochun's comfort, but Junsu finally regains his balance.  "I see you."

Yoochun smiles, suddenly feels every muscle in his being ache - his legs, his hands, his head, his heart - from the immense amount of effort and determination it had taken him just to get here.

It feels like accomplishment.

"I see you, too."  Yoochun returns.  "Always.  From the beginning."

Junsu grins as bright as the rising sun over the mountains, presses himself even closer, and makes Yoochun feel the warmth all over.

Yoochun takes him in, takes a breath.

"I always knew the view would be stunning from up here."  Yoochun whispers.

"What?"

Yoochun just smiles, presses the curve of it to Junsu's lips.

Takes his time.
