Whew, just completed a tough CA exam. My new CA subject's just starting up but is of the 'slightly easier' category (if subjects requiring 15+ hours reading a week can be described as 'easy', anyway) and work is fairly cruisey at the moment. Large deadline for a lot of my stuff 11 November, but I should be able to knock it all over. I am totally ORGANISED, and life's fairly decent. Might even spend some quality time catching up with the PS2. Or baiting crazy people online with some Beale Cipher madness and laughing at the results. Yes, it is a great time to be me, people.
Or normally, anyway. You know how people say things like "There are no such things as problems, only opportunities"? Well, today at work they've presented me with an opportunity. It might even be an unsurmountable opportunity. I don't want to go into too much detail here but I've been working on individual tax returns and some smaller company accounts mainly and now I've been offered work involving networked local and international companies, consolidating them and then flogging them on the local stockmarket. This is.. experienced merchant banker work and if you make mistakes people lose millions and "See you in court". It's suicidal to consider someone like me even suitable for the work (Me: "Man, satisfying the ASIC requirements on the transfer pricing provisions is tougher than the Strite boss in Thunderforce IV. Is there anything else I can help you with?" Someone else: "No really, we'd like to talk to whoever's in charge. You can get me a coffee while I wait") and yet they're asking ol' n/k up to bat. Time for that passport in a second name, methinks.
I mean, it's nice someone thinks I'm capable of doing these sorts of things (even if they used the deadly phrase "it'll look good on your C.V." - there are three phrases people will use when they want you to do something horrible. One is that, the other two are "it's character building" and "you're my go-to guy for this"), but seriously, if you haven't seen the sacking of Carthage and want to know what you missed out on, have a look at my career if I get talked into taking this fool's errand on.
