black feet.
when i was younger i used to think, only punky brewster got away with jumping on her bed with shoes on.
guest etiquette.
before entering my house i ask all of my guests to take off their shoes.
they scoff, smirk, protest, and pout.
most will comply with just a huff.
but one recently ignored my request.
as one pulled back the corners of his eyes.
the other waltzed right into my living room,
prancing around in her dirty flip flops,
squealing, "porque? me da igual. no lo quiero. alo mejor es el costumbre de china y ella- pero no es mi costumbre. why? i dont care. i dont want to. it might be the custom of china and hers- but its not my custom." she graced me with a thirty minute lecture, reminding me of how i was in Spain, how it was rude of me to impose my "china" customs, and that if i went to her house she wouldnt make me do silly odd things.
in my house, unlike the spanish homes ive visited. your feet wont collect remnants of the outside world or turn black with each step. my floors are so clean you wouldnt need to look hard for your reflection.
i was more turned off by her lack of respect than her unwillingness to succumb to my harsh demands. my experiences living in spain (with more to come) -i am not here to pc spain nor educate the deaf.
maybe its my ignorance. maybe its theirs. who knows..
