So this is the second most important proposition on the ballot this year in my opinion. It's a parental notification law that would require parental notification 48 hours prior for a minor to get an abortion. Virtually identical ballot measures have been defeated by California twice before, but this time they put in a few more hoops to get to the same location and it's back. Parental notification is dangerous and reckless and cannot pass. Young girls face eviction from their homes and in some cases violence at the hands of their parents. This law will also force many many girls to get unsafe and illegal abortions either because they have been forbidden by their parents or because they are afraid for their parents to know. It will cause the number of teenage mothers to rise and put their children at a disadvantage from birth. This measure is being opposed by a number of medical groups including California Academy of Family Physicians, American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, District IX, and American Academy of Pediatrics, California District as well as the California Teachers Association.
In short this amendment to the California Constitution is the first step to reversing Roe v. Wade for minors and it's a slippery slope from there. I urge you to vote NO on Prop 4.
